Electro-Mechanical TechnicianThis role combines electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation responsibilities to support reliable operation of a large manufacturing facility. The Electro-Mechanical Technician performs daily maintenance assignments, troubleshoots complex equipment issues, and carries out repairs on production machinery, control systems, and related infrastructure. The position emphasizes a strong safety mindset, proficiency with maintenance management systems, and the ability to work flexibly across electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation tasks in a fast-paced production environment.Responsibilities include supporting and actively participating in a strong safety culture that aims for zero injuries and illnesses, consistently following all safety policies and procedures. The technician performs daily maintenance assignments of an instrument, mechanical, or electrical nature, ensuring timely and effective completion of work orders. Special maintenance assignments are carried out as requested by leadership, adapting to changing priorities and operational needs. Training in instrumentation, mechanical, and electrical areas is required to become fully proficient in troubleshooting problems and performing repair work on a wide range of equipment. Necessary cleaning and good housekeeping practices are maintained to keep work areas safe, organized, and efficient. The SAP maintenance management program is used to write notifications, create work orders, locate stock materials, and review equipment history for informed decision-making. Company mobile equipment, including forklifts, scissor lifts, and JLG machines, is operated in a safe and compliant manner to support maintenance tasks. Electric motors are replaced, ensuring proper wiring, alignment, protection devices, and rotation are correctly set and verified. Instrumentation tasks such as changing out field controllers, probes, automatic valves, and operators are performed to maintain accurate and reliable process control. Instrument calibrations for field instruments including flow meters, temperature probes, pH meters, density meters, pressure transmitters, level transmitters, and other field devices are conducted. Welding and fabrication functions are performed as needed to repair or modify equipment and structures. Lathes and milling machines are operated to fabricate or repair mechanical components as required. Proper assembly and rigging functions are carried out to safely complete equipment repairs and installations. Alignment and balancing functions are performed to ensure equipment operates smoothly and within specification. Specialty hand and shop tools such as volt and amp meters, meggers, DC voltage equipment, hot sticks, static trip test sets, ground fault testers, drills, grinders, cut-off saws, and wrenches are used to diagnose and repair equipment. All plant rules and safety requirements, including applicable standards such as SO and FSSC, are understood and complied with to maintain regulatory and internal compliance. Work is prioritized and organized effectively to make efficient use of resources, determining appropriate parts, tools, equipment, and manpower for each assignment. Preventive maintenance inspections, safety inspections, and audits are performed as assigned, and timely and accurate documentation of findings is provided. PLC systems are troubleshooted and low, medium, and high voltage electrical problems are diagnosed and repaired. Ladder diagrams and general control circuit systems are read and understood to support troubleshooting and maintenance activities. Maintenance documentation is reviewed and verified for accuracy and completeness as required. The status of daily assignments is communicated to maintenance supervisors, maintenance planners, operations leads, engineers, value stream leaders, and maintenance leadership as needed. The technician responds to plant call-ins to troubleshoot instrumentation, electrical, or mechanical problems, and makes appropriate assessments when additional assistance is required to complete repairs. Work is performed on weekends, holidays, and overtime as required by the production schedule and maintenance needs.Essential skills include a high school diploma or GED, prior experience in instrument, mechanical, and electrical maintenance within an industrial or manufacturing environment, knowledge and practical experience in the use of hand and shop tools for maintenance and repair work, demonstrated effective troubleshooting methods and a track record of successfully resolving equipment and system issues, ability to lift and carry up to 55 pounds, climb ladders, and work at heights safely and confidently, ability to learn new tasks and assignments with a demonstrated willingness to maintain flexibility and support change, ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with colleagues across maintenance and operations, prior experience maintaining low, medium, and high voltage equipment, prior experience maintaining analog and digital control systems, including production equipment and AC/DC motors, experience troubleshooting PLC systems and working with PLC-based control environments, experience as an electro-mechanical technician, maintenance mechanic, or PLC technician, or in a closely related role, availability to work weekends and holidays as the schedule requires and to work overtime when requested.Additional skills and qualifications include Instrument Electrical Certification, working knowledge of SAP maintenance modules or similar computerized maintenance management systems, experience working with production equipment in a manufacturing environment, comfort operating mobile equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts, and JLG machines, familiarity with calibration of field instruments, including flow, temperature, pressure, level, pH, and density measurement devices, experience with welding, fabrication, and the operation of lathes and milling machines, ability to read and interpret ladder diagrams and general control circuit schematics, strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple assignments, clear and professional communication skills for coordinating with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams.Why work here? Work takes place in and around operating process equipment, control systems, and utilities, requiring regular movement throughout the plant and occasional work at heights or in confined areas. The position involves hands-on use of a wide range of tools and equipment, including mobile equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts, and JLG machines, as well as specialized electrical and instrumentation test devices. Maintenance activities are supported by the SAP maintenance management system, and work schedules may include weekends, holidays, and overtime to meet production and maintenance demands. Appropriate personal protective equipment is provided and required, including steel-toed boots as part of the standard dress code.Job type & location This is a contract to hire position based out of Abingdon, MD.Pay and benefits The pay range for this position is $33.67 - $33.67/hr.
