Position Summary

The School Nurse provides direct nursing care, manages student health needs, responds to illnesses and injuries, maintains required health records, and promotes a safe and healthy learning environment. The nurse also serves as a trusted resource for students, families, faculty, and staff. The School Nurse is one of two full-time school nurses. The responsibilities listed below may be assigned to one or both nurses depending on the needs of the department and the skillset of each Nurse and is not intended to be a comprehensive list of daily tasks.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess and treat student illnesses and injuries
• Administer medications and physician-authorized treatments
• Develop and implement individualized healthcare and emergency action plans
• Support students with chronic conditions, allergies, and other health needs
• Maintain accurate, confidential student health records
• Review immunization and health documentation for compliance
• Coordinate required screenings and follow-up care
• Respond to health-related emergencies and provide first aid
• Communicate with families, healthcare providers, and school personnel
• Educate students and employees about health, wellness, and disease prevention
• Help develop and implement school health and emergency-response protocols
• Promote a safe, inclusive, and caring environment for every student
• Serve as a member of the Emergency Response Team and Safety Committee
• Provide coverage on campus and at WT-sponsored programs including overnight field trips, after school programs, summer programs, etc.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe health office; dispose of medical waste and hazards according to established procedures; ensure proper storage of medications and supplies
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Current Pennsylvania LPN or RN license in good standing

Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred

Current CPR/AED certification

At least 2 years of clinical nursing experience

Experience in pediatrics, family medicine, emergency care, public health, or school nursing preferred

Sound clinical judgment and the ability to respond calmly in urgent situations

Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills

A warm, approachable manner and a genuine interest in working with children and adolescents
