Job Summary A Barnes & Noble bookstore is a gathering place for readers and the community. As a Bookseller you are an integral member of the bookselling team, welcoming customers cheerfully, answering questions, and connecting readers with the right titles and products. You help maintain the attractive presentation of the store, unpack and shelve deliveries, tidy displays, and work the registers quickly and professionally to provide a high‑quality customer experience. Location SC - Mt. Pleasant - Towne Centre - 2973 Classification Part‑Time Behaviors Maintain reliable and punctual attendance for scheduled shifts. Fill scheduling gaps when possible, showing flexibility and responsiveness to the store’s needs, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends and most holidays. Demonstrate a positive and energetic approach to work, performing assigned tasks with purpose and effort. Support and be considerate of colleagues, offering help and kindness. Stay cheerful and helpful with customers, consistently going out of your way to assist them. Show aptitude and willingness to learn new skills and acquire new knowledge in the store. Above all, enjoy being a bookseller. Operational Competencies Use varied technology (registers, computers, tablets, programs) comfortably and efficiently. Develop strong merchandising skills to maintain book presentation and store cleanliness. Maintain visual merchandising in gifting, toys, and other product categories. Run registers competently to serve customers quickly and reliably. Support the receiving and unpacking of deliveries and the accurate shelving that follows. Locate books and other products accurately, using knowledge, colleagues, BookMaster, and available tools. Support the café team willingly and effectively when needed. Understand loss prevention procedures and de‑escalation techniques, identifying theft and problematic behavior and seeking support. Growth and Development Build book knowledge across fiction, nonfiction, and children’s categories. Use knowledge to maintain sections and present books attractively. Make effective book recommendations to customers across varied sections. Learn to sell books positively, supporting key sales objectives such as Monthly Picks, Book of the Year, Membership, pre‑orders, and new releases. Develop expertise in educational toys and games, specialty games, hobby and collectibles, music and movies, and newsstand items. Use this knowledge to support the success of key sales objectives and new product launches. Advance to Senior Bookseller by demonstrating mastery of the outlined skills, gaining new challenges and growth opportunities.
