Job Title

The Passaic Vicinage is seeking self-starters interested in performing a variety of clerical, administrative, and other support functions in connection with cash handling responsibilities under the supervision of the courts, in support of the business operations of such courts, and as contact representatives for clients and customers or users of the services provided by the New Jersey Courts.

REMOTE WORK: The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. To participate in this program, in addition to installing a multifactor authentication app on your phone or tablet, you will be required to have high speed home internet access.

Example of Duties

  • Perform cash handling responsibilities
  • Intake of all court related fees, court ordered payments and revenues for the courts including Bail, Child Support, Probation Fines & Restitution, Civil, Special Civil Part, General Equity, Law/Family filing fees, and other miscellaneous fees.
  • Verify records and documents for accuracy, completeness, and conformity with court rules and policies
  • Operate cash register
  • Prepare daily deposits and disbursements
  • Perform daily closeout and reconciliation for cash register receipts
  • Post batch receipts and collections into the automated finance sub-systems and NJKIDS
  • Modify or update cash transactions, records, or journals on judiciary information systems
  • Possess the ability to answer questions posed by judges, managers, supervisors, coworkers, internal/external customers and complainants
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications for External Candidates One year of experience performing a variety of clerical and support services to include keyboarding and one or more of the following: document or information processing, handling payments for fees, recording monies received, reconciling balances and/or scheduling meetings or appointments. Keyboarding: Ability to use a keyboard, no minimum speed required. BICAT Testing: Candidates selected to serve in a bilingual variant title must pass the New Jersey Civil Service Commission Bilingual Communicative Ability Test (BICAT) performance examination or provide proof of having established bilingual proficiency with the New Jersey Civil Service Commission.

Qualifications for Advancement Candidates Eligibility for Advancement: Eligibility is based upon the applicants having achieved all the competencies for advancement to Judiciary Account Clerk 2 as listed on the Career Progression Eligibility Form for this title. Applicants for advancement to the Judiciary Account Clerk 2 title are not required to take a New Jersey Civil Service Commission promotional examination. Experience Requirement: One year of experience performing a variety of clerical and support services to include keyboarding and one or more of the following: document or information processing, handling payments for fees, recording monies received, reconciling balances or accounts and/or scheduling meetings or appointments. Ability to use a keyboard, no minimum speed.

Supplemental Information

Physical Ability: For some positions, applicants must have the ability to perform work which requires climbing and prolonged standing, stretching, bending and reaching to perform the essential duties of the position. For some positions, the selected candidate must be able to frequently lift and carry supplies weighing from 30 to 50 pounds and, occasionally, materials weighing up to 75 pounds, in order to perform essential duties of the position.

Driver's License: Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.

Special Note: Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. All data received will be kept in strict confidence except to inform the individual of the findings and what action will be taken as a result of this information.

Residency Law: In accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), the "New Jersey First Act," all persons newly hired by the Judiciary within one year must establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Any person may request an exemption from that requirement from the Employee Residency Review Committee in the Department of Labor & Workforce Development on the basis of either hardship or employer critical need.
