Ambulatory Endoscopy Center of Maryland is an outpatient endoscopic facility specializing in colonoscopy flexible sigmoidoscopy and upper endoscopy. We have three GI procedure rooms with state-of-the art safety and diagnostic equipment, including the addition of Carbon Dioxide (Co2) Insufflation during colonoscopy. This is a Per Diem Position - Monday and Friday. Expected hours: 9 – 18 per week, depending on staffing needs. We are asking that all candidates be able to commit to at least two shifts/month. Pay: $42.00 - $44.00 per hour.Position Summary: Pre-op duties include preparing a patient both physically and mentally before an endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy procedure, including taking medical history, verifying consent, administering pre-medication, point of care testing, providing instructions on bowel preparation if necessary, IV placement and monitoring the patient's vital signs prior to the procedure. The ideal candidate will also provide high-quality care to patients recovering from anesthesia, ensuring their safety and comfort during the critical recovery period. Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities:Uses equipment effectively following manufacturer's instruction for useUses proper techniques and procedures according to accepted standards of practiceAssists with inventory of supplies, drugs, and equipment to maintain availability and stock levels in the admission areaMaintains order and cleanliness of PreOp/Admitting areaActively participates as a team member in support of the total pre-anesthesia care processPer Center Policy, uses two patient identifiers, identifies and validates the patient and procedure to be performedWorks collaboratively with the healthcare team to prepare the pre-procedure areaProvides comfort and reassurance to patientMaintains patient's privacy and dignityUtilizes the nursing process to perform safe and individualized nursing care throughout the pre-procedure processAdministers medication(s) per order of physicianAccurately comprehends and interprets physician orders and directionWorks collaboratively with the healthcare team to ensure continuity of patient careEvaluates patient condition and maintains accurate documentation during pre-anesthesia periodUsing the nursing assessment, monitors, and reports any observed abnormalities to the other members of the healthcare teamDocuments patient-care records and other forms accurately, legibly and in a timely manner, following policies and proceduresDevelops a plan of care, based on patient needs, related to the planned procedure and type of anesthesiaAssesses the physical and emotional status of the patient in preparation of the planned procedureReviews post-procedure instructions with patient and responsible adultDetermines and documents patient and responsible adult understanding of the discharge instructions and indications for seeking emergent careOrganizes time, equipment, supplies, and personnel to provide effective and efficient case managementOrganizes nursing activities efficiently and effectivelyAssesses each patient for fall precautions and addresses per Center policyAssists or supervises patients attire change (as necessary)Considers cost containment by using supplies economically and by managing efficient turnover timeAssists with supplies, drugs, and equipment inventories to maintain stock level and availability; maintains order and cleanliness of pre-procedure area(s)Transports patients as needed, observing policies, procedures, and safety requirementsAttends all required educationPerforms other miscellaneous duties as assignedPosition Qualifications:Graduate of an accredited or state board of nursing approved Registered/Professional Nursing program if less than a year of experience.Preferred: Bachelor's degree in nursing.MD State licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) Required.Required BLS/ACLSGood IV skills needed.Ambulatory surgery center: 1 year (Preferred)Demonstrates basic computer skills (for an EMR).EOE Statement: AMSURG is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE).
