Summer Recreation Programs Coordinator

Job Summary The Program Specialist assists the Program Supervisor in planning, coordinating, and delivering high-quality recreation programs and services for the community. This position supports program implementation, provides excellent customer service, and ensures that programs operate efficiently and safely. Duties / Responsibilities Assist the Program Supervisor in developing, organizing, and implementing recreation programs, classes, camps, golf range and events Provide on-site supervision of programs, ensuring participant safety, quality instruction, and customer satisfaction. Maintain accurate records for registrations, attendance, and program evaluations. Assist with scheduling program staff, volunteers, and facilities. Communicate effectively with participants, parents, staff, and community partners. Support program marketing and promotion through distribution of flyers, social media content, and community outreach. Prepare program materials, supplies, and equipment for scheduled activities. Monitor program areas for cleanliness, organization, and safety. Assist with special events as assigned. Report program updates, incidents, and maintenance needs to the Program Supervisor. Actively engage in continuing education, professional associations, and certifications (e.g., CPRP/CPRE or equivalent) to remain current with best practices, industry standards, and legislative changes impacting Illinois park districts. Performs other related duties to meet the district's Mission and Vision. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in recreation, education, or related field preferred. Equivalent work experience may be considered. Experience working in recreation, education, or program support preferred. Previous experience working with children, teens, adults, or seniors in a program setting a plus. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer applications. Ability to adapt to changing program needs and schedules.
