Charge Nurse

Position Description

Employees in this classification are responsible for nursing care at Bell County Jail in Belton, TX . Implements unit objectives and administrative policies. This position is under the clinical supervision of the Unit Director of Nursing.


Major/Essential Functions

• Clinical Operations Oversight: Compliance with organizational, state, and regulatory clinical standards. 100% shift coverage with appropriate staff skill mix. Timely completion of patient care tasks per shift.
• Staff Supervision and Development: Completion of annual performance evaluations by deadline. Documentation of coaching or corrective action within identified issues.
• Quality and Compliance: Greater than or equal to 98% audit score on internal/external compliance reviews.
• Clinical Care and Documentation: Sick call response timeliness. Emergency response time: Average response time of 2 minutes from call to arrival.
• Patient Care Coordination: Timely escalation of high-risk patients within the proper escalation channels.
• Communication and Reporting: Incident reports submitted within the reporting window. Shift handoff reports completed. Attendance at required leadership/clinical meetings
• Other Duties as Assigned: Demonstrates flexibility in supporting operational needs, including cross-coverage and special assignments. Maintains performance standards consistent with primary job functions when performing additional duties.

Pay Statement

Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan website at

Required Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
• Two years of nursing experience, with at least 6 months of that experience as a Registered Nurse. Possession of a valid, current RN license as approved by the Texas State Board of Examiners.

Visa Information

TTUHSC, at its sole discretion, may initiate new H-1B I-129 visa petitions in accordance with the directive issued by Governor Abbott. Approval from the Texas Workforce Commission is required. On a limited, case-by-case basis, the institution may also sponsor eligible individuals for change-of-status or change-of-employer petitions for qualifying positions.
