Ophthalmic Technician Full Time Location: Brownsville, TX, US Posted: 7 days ago Requisition ID: 1192 Salary Range: $12.00 To $13.00 Annually The Tech/COA/Scribe is responsible for assisting the physician and medical office personnel with a variety of patient care activities. They gather the patient’s medical information, document physician dictation during the exam, translate for the doctor and communicate with the patient as needed, ensure exam rooms are stocked, greet patients, and ensure that all procedures are billed appropriately. The Scribe escorts patients and answers questions. Employee responsibilities include: Protecting the physician’s license Maintaining confidentiality of all information accessed while performing job duties Staying in compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, OSHA, HIPAA, OIG, and other legal and contractual obligations Greeting patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous, professional, and helpful manner Assisting physician with recording basic medical findings Obtaining patient history and recording exam results in the medical record as the physician dictates Performing routine tests using ophthalmic instruments (lensometer, phoropter, kerometer, intraocular pressure, basic motility, visual fields, glaucoma scans) Reporting EMR issues Instructing patients verbally and with written instructions regarding medications and treatment, answering questions, and following up as needed Assisting with call backs to ensure proper medication management and customer service Escorting patients to appropriate area (reception, dilating room, lobby) Assisting with pre-certification of procedures by contacting the billing department and ensuring appropriate documentation is obtained prior to exam Explaining procedures to ensure patient awareness and understanding Assisting other technicians as needed Cleaning and sterilizing equipment and operating the autoclave per established guidelines Assisting physicians by obtaining supplies needed during patient care and maintaining supply stock Cleaning patient exam rooms to ensure sanitary condition Demonstrating compliance with all safety rules and policies Ensuring medication samples are not expired and documenting them appropriately Attending required meetings and participating in training as requested, enhancing professional growth through education programs, seminars, and conferences Performing other duties to ensure smooth flow of work/patients in the office Ensuring all equipment in the clinic is maintained and in proper working order and requesting technical support as needed Ensuring all records are accurate, complete, and maintained properly in compliance with regulatory guidelines #J-18808-Ljbffr
