Grants Director

Kodiak Area Native Association-KANA

All KANA positions are based in Kodiak and are not eligible for remote work. Applicants must reside in Kodiak or be willing to relocate. KANA’s standard work schedule is 37.5 working hours per week, typically consisting of 7.5 paid working hours per day plus a one-hour unpaid lunch break (total of 8.5 hours on site per day). The Grants Director leads the Grants department and oversees KANA’s centralized grants function, ensuring grant development, compliance, and reporting are completed effectively and consistently. This role manages the Grants team, maintains continuity of operations, and ensures alignment between funding efforts and organizational priorities. The position ensures quality and accountability in grant-related work, serves as a subject matter expert on grant development and management, supports coordination across departments, and communicates key risks and priorities to leadership. Provides direct support on high‑priority or time‑sensitive grant efforts as needed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Supports the organization’s mission and goals and quality standards. Incorporates KANA’s core values of Courtesy, Caring, Respect, Sharing, and Pride in all activities and decisions. Upholds KANA’s Code of Ethics by conducting professional activities with honesty, integrity, respect, fairness, and good faith in a manner that reflects positively upon the organization. Oversees and directs KANA’s grant seeking and grants management activities, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities, coordination of submissions, and compliance with funding requirements. Builds and maintains relationships with potential funders, Tribal leaders, and local partners. Works across departments to communicate grant program goals, scope, feasibility, and compliance requirements. Proactively seeks to understand organizational strategies and programmatic initiatives and identifies opportunities to align funding efforts with organization priorities. Leads Grants staff in preparing proposals to secure funding for new and existing programs to support community needs. Guides development of written funding applications and advises staff on effective presentation of information. Reviews proposals to ensure they are technically responsive, complete and submitted in accordance with requirements and deadlines. Conducts final review of proposals. Meets regularly with staff from across the organization to understand funding needs and gaps and inform grant‑seeking efforts. Maintains a consistent, organization‑wide approach to grant development and management. Assesses timelines, scope, and workload to ensure feasibility and communicates constraints or risks as needed. Supports management of grant‑related systems and online portals. Develops, writes and maintains department policies and procedures. Trains staff in grant seeking, reporting, and management and provides technical assistance on capacity‑building, projects and resource development. Manages the collection, validation of data supporting documentation for grant applications and reporting. Monitors progress toward deadlines and follows up as needed to ensure timely and complete submissions. Participates in pre‑ and post‑award meetings to establish timelines, assign responsibilities, and communicate grant requirements and expectations. Provides guidance to program staff on implementation of grant‑funded activities. Works with Finance and Program staff to ensure grant funds are expensed in accordance with approved activities. Supervisory Responsibilities : Manages, schedules, and provides direction to assigned staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws, including hiring, training, assigning and directing work, evaluating performance, and addressing employee concerns. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field; and five to seven years of progressive experience in grant development, grant management, or related work relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training. Demonstrated management skills and proven ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of stakeholders. Ability to work independently, think creatively, and identify solutions in a timely manner. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Demonstrated proficiency analyzing situations and developing and implementing appropriate solutions. Effective interpersonal and public relations skills.
