Spanish Teacher

Detroit Community Schools is hiring a full time High School Spanish Teacher. Must have Michigan teacher certification and endorsement in the subject. At DCS, we believe that Education is Power. Job Summary We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Spanish Teacher to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will inspire students through engaging lessons and a dynamic learning environment while fostering a love for the Spanish language and culture. The Spanish Teacher will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive curriculum, assessing student progress, and collaborating with colleagues to enhance the overall educational experience. Responsibilities Essential Duties: Develop and deliver high-quality Spanish language instruction to students Incorporate cultural activities and resources to enhance language learning and promote an appreciation of Spanish-speaking cultures. Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans that meet the curriculum standards and cater to diverse learning styles. Develop assessments and monitor student performance through various methods, including tests, quizzes, projects, and presentations. Collaborate with colleagues to align curricula and participate in ongoing professional development initiatives. Participate in school activities, meetings, and events to contribute to the overall mission of the institution. Maintain a safe and positive environment for all students Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and school staff Regular and predictable attendance Cognitive Demands Supervision of multiple students at once Establishing routines and procedures Maintaining a safe and orderly environment Create and implement instructional plans Participate in continuous professional development Effective oral and written communication skills Physical Demands Occasionally lift/move objects weighing up to 25lbs Stand and walk frequently Occasionally sit on the floor or bend down/squat Withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year Withstand a moderate noise level Be able to perform first aid/CPR if necessary Assist/lift students, as necessary Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Education, Spanish, Linguistics, or a related field. Master’s degree is a plus. Valid teaching certification/license in Michigan for secondary education with an endorsement in the subject. Proficiency in Spanish and English, with excellent verbal and written communication skills in both languages. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning and assessing educational activities.
