Job Requirements The Parent Liaison for the Department of English Learning (EL) is a part-time (.5) position that connects the District with the families of English Learners. Reporting to the Director of English Learner Programs, the Parent Liaison promotes family involvement, coordinates family engagement events and Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee (BPAC) meetings, and provides translation and interpretation support. This family-facing role requires travel between District schools, some evening hours, and discretion with student and family information. Job Qualifications Paraprofessional certification preferred Additional college coursework preferred Experience coordinating activities and events preferred Excellent oral and written communication in English AND Spanish or Arabic Computer and technology skills Strong organizational skills Willingness and ability to travel to various schools within the Oak Lawn-Hometown School District Direct Supervisor Director of English Learner Programs, may receive assignments from administrative personnel as required or assist with special projects as assigned by District administration. Essential Functions & Responsibilities Demonstrate support of the Oak Lawn-Hometown School District #123 Strategic Framework. Uphold the established Board of Education policies, regulations, and administrative procedures. Promote EL parent/guardian involvement in school and District functions and activities. Plan, coordinate, and attend EL Family Engagement nights and Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee (BPAC) meetings. Find, organize, and update materials and resources available to EL families. Assist with translation and interpretation as necessary. Assist with native language proficiency assessments. Serve as a new family mentor to EL families who are new to D123. Maintain confidentiality of student records, family information, staff information, and program documentation. Communicate and cooperate with colleagues, students, parents/guardians, and the community as needed to meet professional standards. Participate in meetings and perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of English Learner Programs or designee in accordance with the Board of Education. Utilize time management techniques to organize and prioritize work. Regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of the needs and experiences of English Learner families and the importance of family engagement in student success Knowledge of District schools, programs, and resources available to families Skill in accurately translating written materials and interpreting conversations between English and Spanish or Arabic Skill in planning and organizing events, meetings, and family resources Ability to build respectful, trusting relationships with families, staff, and community members Ability to use email, word processing, and other technology to communicate and maintain records Ability to work independently, manage a schedule across multiple sites, and handle confidential information with discretion Physical Demands Ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time Ability to travel between District schools and facilities Ability to carry and set up materials and supplies for family events Work Environment Work is performed in multiple school buildings and District facilities Frequent interaction with parents/guardians, students, staff, and community members Some evening hours are required for family engagement nights and related events Noise levels typical of school and event settings Terms of Employment Status: Part-Time (Non-Represented) Evaluation Performance in this position will be evaluated by the Director of English Learner Programs and the Building Principal or designee in accordance with the Board of Education's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
