Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Overview EASTERN SHORE ANIMAL HOSPITAL offers a $3,000 Travel Stipend for Clinical-Year Externship Rotations ! The practice is a 3‑doctor team equipped with digital radiographs, digital dental radiographs, ultrasound, laser therapy, a surgical suite, Idexx Catalyst, Lasercyte, and Sedivue. The clinic has no on‑call and is closed on Sundays with half days on Saturdays. We treat wildlife and exotics and maintain AAHA accreditation; many staff are Fear Free Certified. Responsibilities Work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gather patient histories and perform physical examinations. Assist in the creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, and surgical procedures. Participate in medical management of patients. Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients. Location and Setting The Eastern Shore of Virginia provides a rural environment ideal for those who enjoy outdoor activities such as wildlife trails, beach swimming, fishing, and kayaking. Schedule Externship experiences range from two to eight weeks, depending on the student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students—including those in non‑clinical classes—are encouraged to participate. Stipend Information VET students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. The stipend amounts are listed on the NVA website.
