EHS Specialist

Colorcon offers the role of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist at its West Point, PA location. The successful candidate will promote and maintain a strong safety and environmental culture, provide physical support for operations, and lead safety initiatives and environmental compliance. Responsibilities & Duties Proactively manage assigned site’s Safety and Health programs and environmental permits and reporting (air, water, waste, etc.). Partner with all departments to engage stakeholders, understand safety needs, and propose improvements. Conduct regular site walkthroughs and observe safety and environmental hazards. Manage incident reporting system: update with injury and near‑miss details, investigate root causes, and implement corrective actions. Inform Human Resources of work injuries immediately and provide incident reports promptly. Oversee EHS training for all employees, develop and deliver in‑person and online training, and support new‑hire orientation, competency, leadership, and public seminar initiatives. Maintain updated evacuation plan and conduct minimum twice‑yearly drills with analysis and adjustments. Identify and implement continuous improvement recommendations based on incident, industrial hygiene data, and behavior‑based safety observations. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and reporting for safety, health, and the environment. Manage and support site certifications including ISO 14001, Sustainability certifications and other non‑EHS certifications as needed. Support/supervise HAZWOPER team members. Complete additional tasks as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required, with a scientific discipline strongly preferred. Minimum of 1 year’s experience in EHS, preferably in a cGMP manufacturing environment. Certifications such as CSP, ASP, CIH, CHMM, MSP, and CSD are a plus. Demonstrated ability to partner with varied groups to create enthusiasm and compliance with EHS issues. Strong verbal and written communication, presentation, and organizational skills. Experience in Industrial Hygiene is a plus. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and work in a fast‑paced team environment. Knowledgeable in modern dust safety principles, flammable environments, root cause analysis, and NFPA standards. Experience completing and submitting OSHA 300 logs, Tier II, Form 26R, NPDES, and DMR reports is a plus. Excellent analytical skills, including data collection and compilation. Experience in project management and development of training programs; knowledge of current educational principles and methods. Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and related regulatory and consensus standards required. Knowledge of process effectiveness techniques and Lean Manufacturing is preferred. Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and staying current with research, regulatory changes, and modern safety and training methodologies. Working Location Primarily an on‑site position at Colorcon West Point, PA. Remote work from a home office may be facilitated as needed and at the manager’s discretion.
