About WRVT

West River Valley Thrives (WRVT) is a community coalition dedicated to preventing youth substance use, promoting mental wellness, and strengthening protective factors through education, collaboration, and community engagement across the West River Valley. In conjunction with other staff, the Youth Engagement Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and implementing youth engagement opportunities, prevention education, outreach, and community programming to support the goals of West River Valley Thrives (WRVT). This position works collaboratively with youth, schools, families, and community partners to promote positive youth development, mental wellness, and substance misuse prevention while amplifying youth voice throughout the community.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and facilitate youth leadership groups, meetings, service projects, and other youth engagement opportunities.
  • Implement evidence-based prevention curriculum and life skills programming in schools and community settings.
  • Assist with implementing WRVT work plans, grant objectives, and coalition activities in collaboration with other staff.
  • Plan and facilitate community events, Community Dialogue Nights, youth engagement activities, prevention campaigns, and youth leadership opportunities. 
  • Coordinate youth participation in community events, conferences, trainings, and advocacy opportunities. 
  • Build strong relationships with schools, community partners, healthcare providers, municipalities, businesses, and youth-serving organizations. 
  • Represent WRVT at community meetings, trainings, events, and other public forums. 
  • Support youth-led initiatives, including presentations, awareness campaigns, service-learning projects, podcasts, and other activities based on youth interests. 
  • Assist with grant compliance by maintaining activity trackers, collecting program data, documenting successes and challenges, and supporting reporting requirements. 
  • Serve as a positive, enthusiastic, and supportive member of the WRVT team and perform other duties as assigned. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience in substance misuse prevention, public health, education, youth development, health education, community engagement, or a related field. 
  • Experience working with middle- and high-school youth preferred. 
  • Leadership experience and experience facilitating groups or trainings preferred. 
  • Commitment to health equity, trauma-informed, restorative, and strengths-based approaches. 
  • Knowledge of effective substance misuse prevention principles and strategies preferred. 
  • Strong written, verbal, computer, public speaking, and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences and build collaborative relationships with youth, families, schools, community partners, and key leaders. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and contribute as part of a team. 
  • Creativity, flexibility, initiative, and willingness to work occasional evenings, weekends, and after-school hours. 

Work Schedule 

  • Part-time position (15-20 hours/week). 
  • Hourly pay of $22/hr. 
  • Some evening and weekend hours required for community events, trainings, and youth activities. 
  • Availability during school and some after-school hours is required to support youth programming. 

Physical Requirements 

  • Ability to travel throughout the WRVT service area. 
  • Ability to transport program materials and event supplies. 
  • Ability to stand, walk, and actively participate in indoor and outdoor community events.
