Front End Manager

Job Responsibilities Champion company and division customer service programs to meet and/or exceed the division’s customer satisfaction measurement goals. Handle customer relations positively, including effective resolution of customer complaints. Promote Albertsons/Safeway’s philosophy of personalized service. Provide fast, friendly, courteous and legendary customer service. Improve customer relations and perform checking duties and supervisory functions on cash registers. Serve as backup checker when necessary. Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques. Direct and supervise front‑end activities, monitoring customer traffic and service level; coordinate and implement front‑end service programs; maintain cleanliness standards; proactively maintain safety and appearance of front‑end. Monitor and be responsible for ordering front‑end supplies (bags, rain checks, item correction forms, etc.). Ensure front‑end is fully operational and projects a positive image. Handle and be accountable for cash flow and controls including safe transactions, issues and pickups of monies, tills, approving checks, rain checks, refunds, and monitoring checker money handling policies and procedures. Handle scan system emergency procedures, UPC codes not on file, scan pricing errors and other retail integrity issues. Assist with interviewing and hiring checkers, courtesy clerks, customer‑service counter clerks and office/bookkeepers. Assist with training front‑end employees and monitor front‑end compliance. Supervise employees assigned, make recommendations for employment status changes and discipline to the Store Director. Maintain a constant awareness of customer and employee safety. Enforce dress and grooming standards for all employees. Assist with controlling shrink. Perform all job duties and responsibilities safely, accurately and with honesty and integrity. Other duties as directed and required. Skills & Physical Requirements Strong communication, leadership, team‑building and interpersonal skills; ability to maintain composure under pressure. Ability to professionally handle difficult situations while projecting a positive image. Frequently lift and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to approximately 55 lbs. Ability to stand or walk for long periods and move quickly. Ability to operate and troubleshoot store computers and check‑stand equipment such as printers, scales, public‑announcement equipment, scanners and cash registers. Knowledge of interviewing techniques, basic employment law, computer software and analytic ability to handle administrative details such as planning and scheduling. Ability to supervise others, analyze and gather facts for recommending disciplinary action. Ability to make hiring or promotion decisions. Good understanding of company practices and in‑depth understanding of front‑end policies and procedures; ability to judge and react to business activities. Mental alertness necessary to ensure safe and accurate completion of work activities; knowledge of product variety and perishability, safety and sanitation procedures, and department policies and procedures. Ability to present a positive image to the public. Exposure to potential hazards with respect to equipment and work aids necessary to perform job duties. Knowledge of basic mathematics and weights and measures. Working conditions consist of a temperature‑controlled store environment. Occasional exposure to outdoor environment with varying temperatures. Safety – Sensitive Position Job responsibilities include tasks or duties that could affect the safety or health of the employee or others. Union & Non‑Union Pay range is $28.15 per hour, but no less than the local minimum wage. Starting rates vary based on location, experience, qualifications and terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Benefits, contingent on length of service, hours worked and applicable collective bargaining agreement, include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance; sick pay (accrued based on hours worked); PTO/Vacation pay (accrued based on hours worked); paid holidays (9 days annually); bereavement pay; and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401(k) eligibility). Additional compensation and quarterly bonus may apply per agreement.
