CDM Technology is seeking an experienced Senior Wire Harness & Electrical Integration Technician to join the development team of one of Southern California's most innovative electric vehicle manufacturers in Carlsbad, CA.

We're looking for a highly skilled, hands-on technician with extensive experience building, modifying, testing, and troubleshooting complex electrical wiring harnesses.

Approximately 70% of this position involves wire harness fabrication, assembly, integration, and troubleshooting. This is the primary focus of the role, and candidates must have significant, recent, hands-on experience working with complex harness assemblies.

We're not looking for someone who has simply worked around wiring harnesses or occasionally assembled cables. We need someone who understands the details of harness construction, including multiple connector types, wire gauges, wire lengths, color coding, branching, pinouts, crimping standards, and proper termination techniques.

The ideal candidate has experience with complex automotive, aerospace, defense, or industrial electrical systems and can confidently work from detailed engineering drawings to build, modify, and troubleshoot harnesses.

IMPORTANT: During the interview, candidates should expect detailed technical questions about their hands-on harness experience, including connector identification, crimping techniques, wire specifications, pinouts, and complex harness fabrication. Candidates may also be asked to interpret unfamiliar wiring or harness drawings and explain their approach in real time.

This is not a repetitive, high-volume production assembly position. You'll be working in a prototype vehicle development environment where designs evolve, configurations change, and attention to detail is essential.

What You'll Do

• Build, assemble, modify, and troubleshoot complex, multi-branch electrical wiring harnesses for prototype electric vehicles and associated electrical systems.
• Work with a wide variety of connector types, terminals, contacts, wire gauges, wire lengths, color codes, and harness configurations.
• Interpret detailed harness drawings, wiring diagrams, connector pinouts, wire lists, bills of materials (BOMs), and engineering documentation .
• Measure, cut, strip, crimp, terminate, route, bundle, and label wires according to engineering specifications.
• Select and properly use crimping tools, dies, contact insertion/extraction tools, and other specialized harness assembly equipment.
• Assemble and troubleshoot connectors with multiple pins, cavities, contact types, and termination requirements.
• Build harnesses with multiple branches, varying wire lengths and gauges, and complex routing requirements.
• Perform continuity testing, pin-to-pin verification, and troubleshooting of opens, shorts, incorrect terminations, and intermittent electrical faults.
• Inspect harness assemblies for proper workmanship, connector integrity, strain relief, routing, and overall quality.
• Modify and rework existing harnesses as vehicle designs and engineering requirements change.
• Support installation and integration of wiring harnesses into prototype vehicle systems.
• Work directly with electrical engineers and other technicians to identify problems, troubleshoot electrical issues, and implement design changes.
• Assist with circuit board testing, electrical diagnostics, test fixtures, and other electronics-related work as needed.
• Document completed work, modifications, test results, and identified issues.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of recent, hands-on experience in electrical wire harness fabrication, assembly, integration, or troubleshooting , preferably involving complex automotive, aerospace, defense, or industrial systems.
• Demonstrated experience building complex, multi-branch wiring harnesses—not just basic cable assemblies or simple point-to-point wiring.
• Strong knowledge of different connector types, terminals, contacts, pin configurations, and proper connector assembly techniques.
• Experience working with multiple wire gauges, wire lengths, color coding, branching, routing, and termination requirements.
• Strong understanding of proper crimping techniques, tooling selection, and harness workmanship standards.
• Ability to independently read and interpret detailed harness drawings, wiring diagrams, pinout tables, wire lists, and engineering documentation.
• Experience fabricating harnesses directly from engineering drawings and specifications.
• Ability to identify and troubleshoot incorrect pinouts, damaged connectors, opens, shorts, poor crimps, and other harness-related failures.
• Proficiency using multimeters, continuity testers, crimping tools, wire strippers, and other electrical assembly and testing equipment.
• Strong attention to detail, quality, and workmanship.
• Ability to learn unfamiliar systems quickly, work independently, and adapt to changing engineering requirements.
• Comfortable working in a hands-on prototype development environment rather than a repetitive production setting.

Preferred Experience

• IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification or demonstrated experience working to IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship standards.
• Automotive or electric vehicle wiring harness fabrication and integration.
• Aerospace, defense, robotics, or other industries involving complex electrical harness assemblies.
• Experience with a wide variety of automotive, industrial, or aerospace connector systems.
• Experience with sealed connectors, multi-pin connectors, shielded wiring, and specialized cable assemblies.
• Harness inspection, quality control, and electrical testing.
• Experience using oscilloscopes, lab power supplies, CAN analyzers, or other electronic diagnostic equipment.
• PCB assembly, testing, rework, or component-level troubleshooting.
• Experience supporting engineering prototypes, development builds, or low-volume manufacturing.
• Familiarity with vehicle electrical systems and CAN communication networks.

• You communicate well with engineers and other technicians.
• You enjoy prototype environments where designs change, new challenges arise, and no two days are exactly alike.
