Patent Counsel

Patent Counsel – Innovation Law (Princeton, NJ; Cambridge, MA; San Diego, CA) Responsibilities Prepare and prosecute patent applications (drafting, filing, managing global responses to office actions). Perform freedom‑to‑operate analyses; advise on patentability and infringement. Manage patent portfolios (landscape analyses and patent strategy development). Support business development due diligence (evaluate IP portfolios of partners and acquisition targets). Draft and negotiate license and research collaboration agreements. Manage outside counsel relationships to ensure quality and cost‑effectiveness. Provide IP‑related guidance to business and technical teams. Stay current on patent laws/regulations and ensure compliance. Qualifications Registered to practice before the USPTO. J.D. degree. 7–10 years of patent law experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry. Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or pharmaceutical sciences; advanced degree and/or scientific research preferred. Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills. Service‑oriented; effective cross‑functional teamwork. Integrity, excellent judgment, and ability to assess business risk and communicate legal issues to stakeholders.
