Speech Language Pathologist Assistant

Provide speech-language pathology services and appropriate intervention services to eligible students under the direction of an ASHA certified or licensed supervisor. Maintain speech and language special education records and documentation as directed by a licensed supervisor.

Bachelor's degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited college or university. Valid Texas license as Speech-Language Pathology Assistant granted by the Texas Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.

Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of speech-language disorders and conditions, habilitation and rehabilitation of speech, language, and hearing disorders.

Ability to travel to multiple work locations as assigned.

Successful completion of a minimum of fifty (50) hours of supervised fieldwork or its clinical experience equivalent.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Regular district-wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned; moderate lifting and carrying. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit; use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display terminal. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and climb stairs. The employee must maintain emotional control under stress, work frequent prolonged and/or irregular hours. Frequent district-wide travel is also required. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate, but occasionally will be excessive.

Comply with policies established by IDEA-Band State licensure laws, rules and regulations for Special Education, and the local board policy in the area of assessment, timelines, placement and planning for Special Education students.

Assist the SLP with speech, language and hearing screening without clinical interpretation.

Plan and provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech/language goals contained in Individual Education Plans (IEP) under the direction of the licensed supervisor.

Collect accurate data and session notes to assist Speech Language Pathologist in completion of progress report.

Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom-based activities to improve oral and written language skills of students under the direction of the licensed supervisor.

Attend regularly scheduled speech therapy meetings.

Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.

Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, the Educators' Code of Ethics, and Code of Ethics from the Texas State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, and the local board policy.

Administer routine tests, without clinical interpretation, as directed by supervisor when the licensed supervisor has assured proper training and administration of such tests.

Serve as a liaison between the SLP and the campus staff.
