Practice Setting and Clinical Scope As a Hand Surgeon, you will work in an ACS Verified Level One Trauma Center, offering comprehensive care to patients aged 15 years and older. The practice is well-supported with one plastic surgeon focused on hand coverage, a community provider specializing in plastics, and two hospital-employed orthopedic hand surgeons. The team handles a case volume of approximately one surgical case per month on average, with increased activity during the summer months. Clinical responsibilities include in-person responses for procedures, consultations, and follow-up visits, supported by a dedicated trauma clinic. Schedule and Assignment Details This locum tenens assignment offers a flexible schedule with 24-hour shifts from 0700 to 0700. You will be on call approximately 10 days per month, addressing insufficient local hand coverage. The assignment is ongoing, with coverage starting as soon as credentialing is complete and extending through December 2026. The call ratio is negotiable, allowing for a balanced work-life integration. Support and Work Environment The practice is supported by a robust trauma team that assists with rounding and patient management. Although no additional support staff are provided, the trauma team is committed to facilitating a smooth workflow. Clinic responsibilities are minimal and only as needed, with the possibility of follow-up visits being infrequent. The facility reimburses travel expenses, including flight, hotel, and mileage or car rental, ensuring a seamless experience for locum physicians. Qualifications Board Certification in Orthopedic, Plastic, or General Surgery with fellowship training in Hand Surgery. Active Michigan medical license required, with a willingness to obtain a full MI license if necessary. Highly preferred certifications include BLS and ACLS. Recent self-query from the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) required.
