Licensed Optician

Job Description Licensed Opticians are responsible for selling and dispensing eyewear and accessories to patients. They ensure patients are fitted with the right‑size frames that meet their needs and lifestyle, and dispense lenses with the correct prescription and measurements. Licensed Opticians are at the heart of our business. Their technical and customer service skills ensure patient satisfaction and repeat business. Delivers extraordinary experience to each patient and provides a complete understanding of customized recommendations for products and services. Custom fits glasses and precisely places prescriptions in lenses. Develops own clientele through outstanding service and referrals. Assists co‑workers with difficult or complex product needs and prescriptions. Keeps current on company/industry products, manufacturer rebates, and types of lenses and frames available. Takes and returns patient calls, updating patients on order status and resolving issues; escalates when necessary. Retrieves patient charts and electronic health records. Assists patients in selecting frames, lens type, and lens treatments, including tints and coatings based on specific needs. Educates patients on proper eyeglass and contact lens care. Collects eye and face measurements to ensure proper fit. Interprets prescriptions written by optometrist and ophthalmologist. Creates work orders for lab technicians with detailed lens information. Follows up on all pending orders, verifies timing, and informs patients of delays or arrival. Dispenses glasses by inspecting product, checking fit, adjusting as necessary, and soliciting feedback. Adjusts eyewear to ensure visual acuity, proper fit, and comfort using various tools for adjustments and repairs. Proficient in using tools such as pupilometers, PD sticks, lensometers, pliers, wrenches, and frame warmers. Regularly communicates with technicians and store managers for additional patient information or order status. Inspects final product for flaws and cleans and polishes lenses with cloths and solvents. Maintains cleanliness and visual appeal of store areas, including displays, mirrors, work bench, office area, bathroom, and breakroom. Restocks retail boards with new merchandise. Answers patients’ insurance, warranty, product, and pricing questions accurately. Collaborates with technicians, front desk associates, managers, and optometrist. Sells miscellaneous products such as cleaners, contact lens supplies, sunglasses, and safety glasses. Qualifications High School Diploma. State licensure. Optical dispensing experience. Minimum of one year of experience working as an optician (strongly preferred). Experience with HIPAA requirements (preferred). Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent customer service skills and pleasant demeanor; sales experience preferred. Manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination.
