In House Only Applicants (Tribal Members and Employees currently working within a Kickapoo Entity) Position: HVAC Specialist Supervisor: Facilities Director Division: Tribal Reservation Services Administration Department: Building Responsibilities: This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems across commercial and residential government facilities. The role requires advanced technical expertise, the ability to service a wide range of HVAC equipment, and strict adherence to regulatory and safety standards within a compliance-driven environment. Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following: Knowledge in Building Automation Systems (BAS) Service and repair chillers, VRV/VRF systems, rooftop units (RTUs), split systems, and package units. Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC systems in government-owned residential and commercial properties. Determine the reasons for any malfunctions of systems or components and create a maintenance or repair plan to solve the problem. Ensure all routine maintenance work is handled on a regular schedule to reduce the risk of larger and more complex issues and to reduce costs. Inspect, repair, modify and install HVAC equipment including refrigeration and air conditioning compressors, receivers, condensers, water cooling towers, forced air converter units, pumps, automatic and hand valves, expansion valves and capillary tubes. Install and calibrate systems; install copper tubing and repair pipes and tubing as necessary; test joints and insulate pipes of refrigeration and air conditioning systems. Install, rebuild, replace or repair fans, motors, thermostats, fuses, filters, bearings, valves, controls, gaskets and other equipment as necessary. Keep records of all maintenance and repair work conducted, including a record of any supplies ordered and used. Lubricate and pack heating, ventilation, refrigeration and air-conditioning motors, pumps, fans, and other equipment. Maintain related records concerning time, labor and materials; maintain log of tasks performed and write reports as required. Operate a variety of hand and power tools, welder torch, vacuum pump, test equipment utilized in the trade including a motor vehicle; maintain equipment in effective and safe working condition; maintain parts and tool inventory. Perform skilled electrical maintenance work in the repair, installation and alteration of HVAC equipment, components, timers, motors and wiring systems as needed; connect motors to control panels. Coordinate with facility managers, contractors, and other trades as required Provide suggestions for equipment replacement. Provide suggestions on the lifespan of equipment and other HVAC components, advising when certain components should be replaced due to potential risk of failure. Repair and rebuild semi-hermetic reciprocating compressors and compressors for centrifugal refrigeration machines. Test and examine boiler operations, observing meter and pressure gauges; conduct boiler water quality test and treatment; adjust boiler burner combustion. Respond to service calls, work orders and emergency maintenance requests in a timely manner. Coordinate the daily activities of HVAC technicians, ensuring efficient workflow and task completion. Assign work orders, prioritize service calls, and manage technician schedules. Provide technical guidance, troubleshooting support, and on-the-job training to HVAC technicians. Inspect completed work to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with codes, standards, and specifications. Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety regulations, requirements, and organizational policies. Monitor and enforce proper use of tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE). Assist in diagnosing complex HVAC system issues and support advanced repairs when needed. Review and approve work orders, service reports, and maintenance logs for accuracy and completeness. Coordinate preventive maintenance programs to ensure optimal system performance and longevity. Maintain inventory of HVAC parts, tools, and supplies; coordinate ordering and restocking as needed. Communicate with management, clients, or facility representatives regarding project status, issues, and timelines. This position does not carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Education/experience requirements: Minimum Qualifications: Valid Air Conditioning & Refrigeration License is required for this position. High school diploma or graduation equivalent diploma (GED). At least 5 years of maintenance and repair experience in both commercial and residential settings. Proven experience working with chillers, VRV/VRF systems, and RTUs. Preferred Qualifications: Strong knowledge of Chillers system, RTU, VRV/VRF, Split systems, package units, BA controls, and energy management systems. Experience working on government, public, or institutional facilities.
