Patient Care Technician - Emergency Department

Position Details Patient Care Technician (PCT) – University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). Type: Regular | Work Shift: Shift Vary | Sponsorship Available: No | Closing Date: 03/15/2026 Duties & Responsibilities Obtains patient report and maintains ongoing communication with RN regarding patient care and changes in condition; informs nurse of patient requests or complaints. Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients. Transports patients to other areas of the hospital as directed. Carriers out the Plan of Care for patient using a multidisciplinary approach as delegated by the team leader. Communicates effectively with other team members to facilitate patient care. Accepts directions from RN and team members and follows through on delegated patient‑care activities. Provides appropriate grooming/oral hygiene and comfort measures and assists patients with activities (ambulation, sitting, repositioning). Documents all patient‑care activities/tasks, vital signs, ADL, wave tests, I&O accurately and timely per unit and department standards. Assists patients and visitors with information and/or solutions to problems. Serves as a resource person to support department members in performance of duties. Notifies appropriate staff members of problems requiring prompt intervention. May perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED; completion of patient‑care technician course within 3 months of hire. Excellent communication skills, ability to follow oral instructions, basic computer skills, strong work ethic and accountability. Must be able to lift 100 lbs to waist height. Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment. Preferred Qualifications: Certification as a nursing assistant or military corpsman. 1 year experience in acute‑care patient‑care setting. Physical endurance to provide care throughout a 9‑hour shift; comfortable performing tasks that require routine use of personal protective equipment such as N95 masks, PAPR or CAPR. Physical Requirements Lifts or carries weight of 100 lbs or more. Pushing or pulling weight up to 100 lbs. Constant physical activity: hearing, reading, concentration, analytical thinking. Frequent physical activity: standing, walking, talking, hand use. Occasional physical activity: sitting, bending, crawling, crouching, kneeling, stooping, reaching overhead, tasting or smelling. Work environment: inside a medical facility with moderate noise and visual requirements for near and far vision, color discrimination, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
