VP/SVP Technical Underwriting – Builders Risk DUAL North America, Inc. is seeking a VP/SVP Technical Underwriting in the Builders Risk division. The role reports to the President and includes a salary range of $180,000.00–$250,000.00. The position is located in Houston or Dallas, TX and can be performed remotely or in a hybrid arrangement. Travel up to 30% or more may be required. This role is exempt and full‑time. Role Overview The Underwriting Team Lead plays a critical leadership role in defining underwriting strategy and fostering broker relationships. You will act as a subject matter expert in nuanced risk evaluation, manage a team through the employee lifecycle, and own profitable portfolio growth. Responsibilities Manage and grow your own portfolio of technical risk‑based projects, evaluating risk and maximizing carrier capacity within carrier agreements and underwriting guidelines. Train and foster careers of Associate Underwriters and Underwriters within the team. Manage a small to mid‑sized team; handle performance evaluations, hiring and recruiting, and termination decisions. Define team production goals that align to division goals and drive execution both hands‑on and via direct reports. Review referrals from team members and curate a portfolio of business per Underwriting Guidelines and pricing tools. Own division level projects or initiatives outside of direct expertise to gain exposure to larger organizational operations. Manage the budget for a portion of the division, including staffing and T&E costs. Work with the Division President to expand the business beyond builders risk into inland marine offerings. Act as Subject Matter Expert for the business to peers, leadership, and team. Execute annual new and renewal business goals by achieving agreed premium income and hitting quote numbers with desired hit ratios and retentions. Foster and build new relationships with key producers to gain more business and place it. Underwriting Authority Has Underwriting authority as outlined in Letter of Authorization. Key Requirements Bachelor’s degree preferably in engineering, chemistry, risk management, finance, business, marketing or a related field. 10+ years of relevant technical and inland marine underwriting experience. In‑depth understanding of technical underwriting principles and risk assessment. Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision‑making skills. Proven ability to manage and build broker and client relationships. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Demonstrated ability to handle complex risks with sound judgment. Highly self‑motivated with strong attention to detail. Ability to travel up to 30% or more as required.
