Summary The Division of Protective Operations of the U.S. Department of Labor provides executive protection services to the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of the Department of Labor, and other officials designated by the Secretary. The Division conducts inquiries and investigations into significant matters of security concern. This position is outside the bargaining unit. Learn more about this agency Duties Help This position is a Criminal Investigator and also serves as an Assistant Special Agent In Charge. The position is located in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Administration and Management (OASAM), Division of Protective Operations (DPO). Major duties for this position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Conduct highly complex criminal investigations into threats directed towards the Department of Labor (DOL) leadership, particularly the Secretary of Labor and senior officials, as directed by the Secretary.
- Conduct protective intelligence investigations to assess and mitigate threats against DOL leadership.
- Develop and execute security plans for senior officials facing credible threats due to their roles or public exposure.
- Coordinate with forensic experts, cybersecurity personnel, and technical staff to analyze evidence and substantiate findings.
- Prepare investigative reports for prosecutorial action, liaising with the Department of Justice and other prosecutorial entities.
- Develop, implement, and manage the DOL Insider Threat Program to identify, assess, and mitigate risks posed by trusted insiders, including employees, contractors, and partners.
- Ensure all investigative and intelligence-related activities adhere to legal and regulatory guidelines.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- Candidate required to obtain and maintain the necessary security/investigation level.
- Requires a probationary period if the requirement has not been met.
- Subject to pre-employment and random drug tests.
- Requires medical exam and must maintain physical requirements.
- Requires a valid driver's license and have the ability to obtain a government license to operate a government vehicle.
- Selectee is entitled to Law Enforcement Availability Pay at the rate of 25% of base pay, as prescribed in Title 5 United States Code Section 5545. (Annual avg. of 2 or more hrs of unscheduled duty per reg. workday to receive the 25% Availability Pay)
- Must qualify with and carry a firearm.
- Subject to financial disclosure requirements.
- Domestic and foreign travel required.
- Certificate of completion equivalent to FLETC CITP (submit certificate/proof with application).
- Certificate of completion of equivalent protective services course (submit certificate/proof with application).
- Experience interpreting and applying laws, regulations, and advanced investigative methods to lead and execute complex law enforcement intelligence operations.
- Experience obtaining information from sources including alleged criminals and reluctant witnesses.
- Experience with surveillance planning, including those surveillance activities involving multiple parties, the latest technology, and methods that are subject to changing legal admissibility.
- Experience collecting data and preparing investigative reports, statistical reports, case summaries, and program evaluations.
- Experience collecting and evaluating intelligence from sources such as social media, law enforcement reports, and public tips, to identify targeted violence risks.
- Age 57, and;
- 20 years experience under law enforcement service that is formally approved for retirement coverage.
- The incumbent must have attended an Acceptable federal law enforcement training equivalent to Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) Criminal Investigative Training Program (CITP). (Submit certificate/proof with application).
- Incumbent must also have attended an acceptable protective services course to provide adequate protective services. (Submit certificate/proof with application).
