As a CNC Set Up Trainee the individual will have an active role in properly performing the tasks related to machine set up such as: removal and installation of tools, tool setting, tool offsets and program movements.

The CNC Set Up Trainee must be able to read, follow and comprehend work instructions and blueprints. The individual will have the recommended hand tools and measuring instruments. Other duties may be assigned.

Personal hand tools and measuring instruments are required. (See list below)

Education and/or Experience:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Minimum six months related experience and/or training

Machine Operation:
• Performs task correctly such as:
o Loading and unloading of parts
o Changes inserts / tooling
o Adjusts wear offsets
o Measures parts
o Run jobs within quality and efficiency expectations
o Maintains coolant level
o Maintains lubrication oil
o Greases fixtures
o Washes down inside of machine
o Cleans work area
o Production documentation
o Performs tool testing and documents results

Machine Set Up: (primary assigned machine(s))
• Learn tasks such as:
o Removal and installation of tools and fixtures
o Perform tool setting and tool offsets
o Transfer of machine programs to and from machine control
o Follow program movements
o Determining and establishing work offsets
o Obtain first article
o Creation of general work holding (i.e., soft jaws)
o Machine set up with assistance
o Selection of tooling
o Minor edits of programs
o Indicating in of jaws, fixtures, tooling, etc...

Mathematical Skills:
• Basic math ability such as:
o Addition
o Subtraction
o Multiplication
o Division
• Learn how to calculate such things as:
o Speed (RPM / SFM)
o Feed (IPM / IPR)
o Chip Load
o Taper

Quality:
• Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness
• Identify that surface finishes are met
• Measures parts correctly and ensures specifications are met
• Visually inspect parts to specified standards

Blueprints:
• Is able to read blueprint dimensioning

• Basic knowledge and use of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

Computer Use:
• Standard PC and MS software
• Essential elements of current ERP System

• Assists in the organization and maintaining the machine shop work environment
