About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced communications professional who is skilled in developing clear, audience-centered content for federal digital platforms, public awareness campaigns, and stakeholder communications. As Communications Specialist, you will play a key role in supporting the modernization of our Federal Agency client's website, strengthening campaign messaging, and helping translate complex public safety information into accessible, accurate, and engaging content. You will work closely with project management, senior marketing, graphic design, research, and user experience professionals to support a refreshed communications strategy and deliver high-quality content aligned with the client's mission, brand standards, accessibility requirements, and launch timelines.

This is a Full-time in-person W-2 position in Washington, DC. No telework applicable.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Duties:

• Draft, edit, and refine public-facing web copy, campaign messaging, educational materials, stakeholder communications, social media copy, reports, executive summaries, and presentation content.
• Support Client website as a primary public information and engagement platform by improving clarity, usability, discoverability, message consistency, and audience-specific content pathways.
• Develop and maintain content aligned to the broader campaign outreach, public safety education, reporting resources, and brand enhancement objectives.
• Assist with content inventory, content classification, gap analysis, and recommendations for modernization, optimization, consolidation, archival, migration, or redevelopment of existing communications materials.
• Apply AP Style, plain-language principles, editorial guidance, Section 508 accessibility requirements, and web-posting readiness standards across all digital content deliverables.
• Prepare or support communication plans, creative briefs, content calendars, content governance documentation, editorial workflows, metadata guidance, stakeholder materials, and campaign implementation inputs.
• Coordinate with the Senior Marketing Specialist to translate audience segmentation, messaging architecture, SEO/discoverability recommendations, and performance insights into usable content.
• Coordinate with the Usability Specialist to ensure content supports priority user tasks, audience journeys, page flows, wireframes, user scenarios, and testing recommendations.
• Coordinate with the Graphic Designer to ensure copy and visuals work together across website pages, digital ads, social media graphics, presentations, educational toolkits, public outreach materials, and other communication channels.
• Support monthly status reporting, analytics narratives, meeting materials, revision responses, file turnover, and final reporting by supplying clear written updates and deliverable-ready content.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• 5+ years of professional writing, editing, strategic communications, public affairs, digital content, or campaign communications experience.
• Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, English, public relations, public affairs, digital media, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered where permitted by the proposal strategy.
• Demonstrated ability to write for government, public safety, law enforcement, nonprofit, regulated, or high-sensitivity subject matter environments.
• Strong command of AP Style, plain-language writing, content organization, message hierarchy, grammar, proofreading, and audience-centered editing.
• Experience preparing content for websites, social media, presentations, reports, public education materials, stakeholder communications, and campaign channels.
• Working knowledge of Section 508 accessibility requirements for Word, PowerPoint, PDF, web content, and digital deliverables.
• Ability to synthesize research, stakeholder input, analytics, usability findings, and subject-matter guidance into accurate and accessible public-facing content.
• Ability to operate in a federal review environment, manage multiple concurrent deliverables, respond to revisions quickly, and maintain careful version control.
• Prior federal contractor, law enforcement, public safety, public health, or national public awareness campaign experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of Sharepoint and Drupal content management system preferred.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Top Secret Clearance required. If selected, employment will be subject to an FBI background investigation.
