The Patient Placement Nurse (PPRN) is a Registered Nurse responsible for coordinating patient throughput from all points of entry to facilitate efficient hospital-wide patient flow and optimal utilization of inpatient capacity. This RN serves as a central point of coordination, receiving and managing communications related to patients requiring admission, transfer, or placement to ensure alignment of patient acuity, clinical needs, and available resources.

Working within a multidisciplinary team, the Patient Placement Nurse applies strong clinical judgment, triage expertise, and prioritization skills to support safe, timely, and appropriate patient placement across the continuum of inpatient acute care services. Through proactive capacity planning and real-time assessment of bed availability, patient demand, and operational constraints, the PPRN helps optimize patient movement, reduce delays, and support organizational throughput goals.

The Patient Placement Nurse collaborates closely with physicians, hospital leadership, Administrative Coordinators (ADCOs), nursing units, resource teams, care management, transfer center staff, and other operational partners to develop and maintain a systems-based approach to patient flow. This role identifies, escalates, and helps resolve barriers impacting admissions, transfers, discharges, and surge capacity, while supporting hospital capacity management strategies and patient flow initiatives.

The PPRN plays an integral role in inpatient acute care operations by balancing competing priorities, coordinating resources across departments, and ensuring patient placement decisions align with clinical appropriateness, operational efficiency, and quality outcomes. This role offers a unique opportunity to leverage advanced clinical assessment, critical thinking, and operational collaboration skills to support patient acuity needs, maximize hospital capacity, and enhance the overall patient and provider experience.

Required: Certifications/Licenses/Experience:

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) in Indiana or other compact licensure state
• A minimum of three years of clinical nursing experience in an acute care setting or related specialty area preferred
