Supervise student athletes during all facets of participation such as competition travel, meetings, practices, ensuring activities have minimal risk of injury. Maintain records required by district, athletic conference, state and KSHSAA including pre‑participation physical exam, concussion form, insurance waiver, medical release, activity consent, schedules, equipment inventory, statistics, accurate squad roster. Verify that all candidates complete required forms and health requirements before receiving equipment or participating. Implement practice schedules and facility usage, adhere to school and district policies, and submit schedules to administration. Supervise practice sessions and keep locker‑room security. Report all injuries to proper school officials following injury reporting policy. Support athletic trainers at practices/contests and follow their recommendations regarding student safety. Follow established policy decisions that align with school and USD 500 procedures. Organize uniform and equipment checkout, maintain inventory, enforce care rules, and ensure accountability each season. Inform administration of equipment needs to maintain safety and performance. Record evaluation procedures, assess athletes, and provide performance feedback. Attend supporting activities such as league meetings, coaching meetings, parent orientations, recognition events. Develop practice regimes covering strength, speed, agility, nutrition, injury prevention to enhance performance. Assess facilities for hazards or inadequate equipment and recommend modifications to reduce injury risk. Oversee coaching personnel and student managers, providing direction and monitoring activities. Guide coaching personnel in instructional techniques and supervision responsibilities. Assign duties to coaching personnel and prepare written evaluations at season end. Advise coaching staff, parents, and athletes on sportsmanship, and ensure understanding of KSHSAA Rule 52. Monitor academic eligibility of student athletes, comply with KSHSAA and USD 500 policies, intervene as needed. Report all team scores to appropriate media outlets and prepare public releases. Perform other duties assigned by the Building Principal and/or Athletic Director. Qualifications Certified teacher or qualify for Rule 10 certification through the Kansas State High School Activities Association. Successful completion of a criminal background check. Current certification in CPR and AED. Communication & Organization Maintains communication with school personnel, parents and guardians to enhance cooperative action that meets students’ educational needs, and utilizes existing technology effectively. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures or regulations, write reports, curriculum, correspondence, and present information to administrators, staff, parents, students, and the public. Physical Demands Requires sitting, walking, standing, talking or hearing, with specific vision requirements including close, distance and depth perception.
