Typical responsibilities are to work on Remote Sensing related projects for state and federal clients across the US. Overall responsibility includes working on a team performing automated and manual processing of hydrography data for the 3D Hydrography Program (3DHP). Our commitment to excellence stems from our personal integrity and from other defining attributes, which we call "Dewberry at Work," that have inspired our employees to be successful for more than a half-century Responsibilities Position requires experience in analysis and review of elevation data (typically derived from topographic lidar, topobathymetric data, or IfSAR), vector data (2D and 3D), Digital Elevation Models (DEMs), Digital Surface Models (DSMs), Elevation Derived Hydrography (EDH) data for 3DHP, Watershed Boundary Datasets (WBD), NHD, imagery, and derivative products for state, federal, and private clients across the US. Experience with processing large vector datasets and performing raster geoprocessing preferred. Strong candidates will also have a good, conceptual understanding of fundamental remote sensing concepts and geospatial processes for various products, e.g. how lidar sensors work, basic GPS ground survey procedures, airborne lidar trajectory processing, interaction of light and water for bathymetry applications, and ortho-imagery processing. Working with elevation data, hydrography, hydrographic networks, and derived products Creation and analysis of data products and processing results Working with Watershed Boundary Datasets (WBD) and National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) Feature extraction and attribution Work with the Product Line Lead to assist in the execution of projects, on time and within budget. Data Management and Handling: Planning and monitoring production data, ensuring data management protocols are met including the use of proper files and formats as well as file locations, storage, and backups. Perform work that appropriately follows all quality control steps and practices are implemented throughout processes to ensure deliverables meet client specifications. Provide feedback and support for developing and/or updating SOPs as necessary. Works with production staff to support process improvements; working with other Technology/Process Improvement teams to review best practices to enhance product line, gain efficiencies, and improve quality. Support improvements to automation of the production and QC process through providing technical guidance and ideas Task Management; Problem resolution; Report writing; Collaboration Quality Assurance, documentation and providing feedback. Required Skills & Required Experience Understanding of Lidar production workflow and being able to explain the conceptual basis of Lidar acquisition, processing, and deliverable creation The ability to analyze point clouds and various geospatial data layers derived from point cloud data. Creative problem-solving skills. GISP Certification, ASPRS certifications in Lidar or other Remote Sensing technologies a plus Working knowledge of Python and/or other programming languages a plus. GDAL Tools, and command line applications highly desirable ArcGIS Data Review and Production Editing experience a plus. Specific experience working with the retired National Hydrography Dataset (NHD), USGS 3DHP, or other hydrology data. Experience in hydrography, H&H modeling, flood mapping or related area. Experience creating scripts/models/macros in multiple GIS/remote sensing platforms Experience with national elevation programs, such as NOAA’s Coastal Mapping Program, USGS 3DEP, and/or USGS 3DHP Experience with industry standards and specifications, e.g., Elevation-Derived Hydrography Data Acquisition Specifications, Elevation-Derived Hydrography - READ Rules, ASPRS Positional accuracy Standards for Digital Geospatial Data, USGS Lidar Base Specifications Don't meet every single requirement? Salary Range The projected range for this position is $74,000-$95,000 in our Fairfax, VA office.
