Assistant Construction Project Manager

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience as an Assistant Project Manager or Project Engineer in construction, strong organizational skills, and the ability to coordinate subcontractors, schedules, budgets, and quality control. This role will support projects across residential and commercial portfolios; experience with multifamily, townhomes, cottages, apartments or commercial work is a strong plus.Key ResponsibilitiesSupport the Project Manager in planning, scheduling, and executing construction projects to meet scope, cost, and timeline objectives.Coordinate daily site activities, subcontractors, suppliers, and trade partners to maintain progress and resolve on-site issues.Prepare, review, and track project schedules, and update stakeholders on milestones and critical path items.Assist with budget management including tracking costs, processing invoices, monitoring change orders, and flagging variances.Manage submittals, RFIs, permits, and project documentation to ensure timely approvals and compliance.Perform site inspections and quality control checks to ensure work meets contract documents, specifications, and safety standards.Facilitate regular project meetings, prepare meeting minutes, and communicate action items to project teams and clients.Support procurement and vendor coordination, including obtaining quotes, reviewing contracts, and ensuring timely delivery of materials and equipment.Compile and maintain construction records, progress reports, and closeout documentation for handover.Assist with safety program implementation, ensuring site compliance with company policies and OSHA requirements.Provide mentorship and oversight to junior staff, interns, or Project Engineers as needed.QualificationsMinimum 2+ years of experience as an Assistant Project Manager, Project Engineer, or similar role in the construction industry.Proven experience on construction projects (required); hands-on background in multifamily, residential (townhomes, cottages, apartments) or commercial projects is highly desirable.Degree in Construction Management, Civil/Construction Engineering, Architecture, or related field, or equivalent trade experience.Solid understanding of construction methods, contract administration, cost control, and scheduling principles.Proficiency with construction management software and tools (Procore, MS Project, Primavera or equivalent) and Microsoft Office suite.Strong ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documents.Excellent communication, organization, problem-solving, and time-management skills with a collaborative mindset.Knowledge of safety regulations and certifications (OSHA 10/30 preferred).Valid drivers license and ability to travel to job sites regularly.Professional certifications such as CCM, PMP, or LEED are a plus; experience with BIM/CAD is beneficial.
