PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY : The 2nd Press Operator – Flexo Sheet will set up, maintain, and operate the machine to acquire quality products while maximizing the target speed of each run. They will also define problem statements, conduct root cause analysis, and troubleshoot mechanical issues that occur on the machine. The Operator will escalate unresolved issues to the Lead/1st Press Operator or Maintenance, while remaining available to assist in order to build their capabilities in the resolution of the issue.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITY:

• Set up machine in a consistent manner as instructed, maintain the procedures concerning proper set up unless a change is approved and properly recorded.
• At the beginning of shift, check previous shift's run to determine status of run.
• Fill out Production Report recording data with all required information.
• Start equipment and adjust machine as required to attain target speeds.
• Be responsible for the quality of the product manufactured in regard to correct rolls of board or blank size to be printed and their quantity, correct cylinder(s), feed up, gears, and printing plates, correct viscosity, color, straining, and quality of the ink used.
• Scans printed board to verify accuracy and clarity of printing.
• Operate the machine in a safe manner.
• Be responsible for all equipment, tools assigned to the machine, and notify the supervisor of any additional tools or equipment that would add to the efficiency and safety of the operation.
• Analyze and correct production problems as they occur.
• Assist in the handling and stacking of the product.
• Follow all instructions that are issued on the work jacket and advise the supervisor of any incorrect or non-recorded information that is necessary for proper set up and operation.
• Must be able to read and understand instructions given on work order, transfer, and record information on Production Report.
• Must possess professional appearance and mannerisms with the ability to positively interact and represent the company to customers during press checks.
• Troubleshoots diagnoses and assists in repair of machine malfunctions; performs routine cleaning and maintenance.
• In accordance with our 5S system, maintain a clean work environment including the machine, floors, desks, and fans.
• Effectively utilize any machine downtime (not including approved breaks) by assisting with set-up or performing other tasks associated with maintaining a clean work environment or as otherwise instructed by a supervisor.
• Pull samples and perform audits during each run to adhere to SCT safety and quality standards.
• May be required to train new/existing employees in adherence to SCT safety and company policies.
• AUTHORITY: Must have the ability to lead a crew to execute the demands of the printing operation efficiently and to respond to oral instructions from his/her supervisor and other written instructions.

  QUALIFICATIONS:

  EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Experience operating a large format press desired, preferably in a folding carton environment. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have basic computer skills and possess the ability to utilize software. Must have mechanical ability and skills.

  LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have the ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English. Must be able to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.
