Job Description Be a part of a world-class academic health‑care system at UChicago Medicine as a Special Procedures Nurse on our main Hyde Park campus. Under the direction of an Attending Physician or a licensed independent practitioner, RN provides technically complex and high‑risk nursing care services to patients which may include one or more of the following categories: sedation, intravenous infusions, complex procedures, e.g., lumbar puncture, cardiac catheterization; This may also include specialized monitoring during procedure and recovery phase; The RN may have Charge Nurse responsibility for his/her assigned unit. Involves a multidisciplinary team as needed to support patient and family psychological, social and spiritual needs Accurately completes required patient assessment, documentation, and interpretations for each patient encounter. Possesses sound professional judgment for timely physician intervention as needed Recognizes patient conditions requiring immediate actions, initiates appropriate life supporting interventions while communicating appropriately with physicians Maintains nursing equipment and work areas in proper working conditions; reports malfunctioning equipment or housekeeping issues to the appropriate person Maintains a neat and clean work area with equipment Maintains adequate inventory control of all necessary supplies Emergency equipment maintained with adequate availability, good working order and restocks as needed with fiscal awareness and accountability Interfaces with customers, specifically patients, families, visitors, and UCMC staff in a professional, positive and accommodating manner; demonstrates knowledge of AIDET principles and employs in all situations; demonstrates flexibility in accommodating special needs of customers whenever possible Performs all required Quality Assurance testing as indicated or as required by UCMC. Rotates to clinical areas as directed to assist in safe staffing ratios; utilizes resources to safely transport sedated patients to an appropriate or designated area within the UCMC Required Qualifications RN Required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred; experience may be considered in lieu of degree in addition to 5+ years clinical experience Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the State of Illinois Current CPR, ACLS, and/or PALS Certifications Preferred Qualifications Leadership/Management experience in area of specialty Experience working in a research environment 2 to 3 years of recent Critical Care/ Emergency room nursing experience (or 2 to 3 years oncology experience) One additional certification in area specialty Position Details Job Type/FTE: 1.0, Full‑time Shift: Days 8a‑6:30p Call Requirements- 7 day per 6 weeks Unit/Department: Rad Intervention CBA Code: NNU Compensation & Benefits Overview UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range is based on a full‑time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity.
