Salary Range: $130,000 - $146,000 yearly, depending on qualifications and experience The Associate Vice President of Development and Community Engagement (AVP-DCE) is a senior executive leader and member of the President’s Executive Team. This position also serves as the Executive Director of the Shoreline College Foundation. The AVP‑DCE provides strategic oversight to all advancement, alumni relations, fundraising, and community engagement efforts in alignment with Shoreline College’s mission and Strategic Plan. The AVP‑DCE leads a team dedicated to inclusive philanthropy, resource development, community partnerships, institutional visibility, leads and institutionalizes strategic initiatives that foster meaningful internal and external relationships, while elevating the public perception and visibility of Shoreline College. This position is responsible for the planning, financial management, board development, compliance, and execution of strategies that increase philanthropic support and strengthen community engagement across the College. Primary responsibilities include the following: Foundation Executive Leadership Strategic Direction: Serves as the Executive Director of the Shoreline College Foundation, administering operations through a quid pro quo agreement with the College. Provides strategic leadership for all fundraising initiatives and philanthropic programs to advance the mission, visibility, and financial sustainability of the institution. Recruits and supports a diverse Foundation Board that reflects the demographics and needs of Shoreline’s service area. Manages board member onboarding and professional development programs that include nonprofit governance, fundraising, and DEIA best practices. Ensures timely, transparent communication with the Board, including meeting materials, financial dashboards, and campaign updates. Maintains accurate board records, including minutes, resolutions, and compliance documentation. Oversees Foundation budgeting, financial statements, fund allocations, investments, and audits. Ensures timely and accurate completion of required state and federal filings (e.g., IRS Form 990, WA Charitable Registrations). Tracks, analyzes, and reports on restricted and unrestricted funds, endowments, donor intent, scholarships, and grant compliance. Provides fiscal analysis to the Foundation Board and supports the Finance Committee in investment and sustainability strategies. Supervises staff responsible for fundraising, donor relations, data integrity, and financial systems (e.g., Donor Perfect, QuickBooks). Fosters an internal culture of philanthropy that reflects Shoreline’s equity-centered mission. Community and External Relations Strategic Direction: Leads efforts to position Shoreline as a regional anchor institution, cultivating partnerships, stakeholder engagement, and philanthropic support. Supervises staff responsible for campus and community engagement efforts and advancement activities. Works collaboratively with college leadership to integrate advancement into institutional goals and decision‑making. Builds partnerships with community‑based organizations, local governments, and civic institutions to enhance Shoreline’s regional influence and support student success. Represents the College at regional and state events, cultivating strategic relationships that increase visibility. Collaborates with Strategic Communications to design outreach campaigns that highlight Shoreline’s mission of equity, access, and excellence. Alumni Engagement Strategic Direction: Leads the development and execution of alumni engagement strategies that reflect the values, diversity, and mission of the College. Supervises staff responsible for alumni initiatives and activities. Alumni Connection & Inclusion: Designs programs that foster connection among alumni from a wide range of backgrounds, educational paths, and career trajectories—honoring both transfer and workforce alumni experiences. Storytelling & Recognition: Elevates alumni voices by showcasing success stories that reflect the transformative impact of a community college education, through digital media, events, and awards. Partnerships Across Campus & Community: Collaborates with faculty, staff, and external partners to integrate alumni into college initiatives such as mentorships, advisory councils, and community‑facing events. Volunteer Leadership: Recruits and supports alumni ambassadors and board members who advocate for the college’s mission and inspire the next generation of students. Equity-Driven Outreach: Champions inclusive engagement strategies that reflect the college’s Strategic Plan. Alumni Giving & Advancement Collaboration: Partners with advancement and foundation teams to cultivate alumni donors and promote sustained philanthropic support for college priorities. Data‑Informed Engagement: Utilizes alumni data and feedback to inform decisions, measure engagement levels, and continuously refine strategies that deepen alumni relationships. Equity and Strategic Alignment Ensures all advancement and engagement strategies are aligned with College policies and Strategic Plan. Collaborates across divisions to embed advancement into institutional operations and planning. Required Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Minimum 7 years of progressive leadership in advancement, fundraising, nonprofit or foundation management, or community engagement. Experience working with nonprofit Boards of Directors and supervising professional teams. Knowledge Of Deep understanding of equity‑driven philanthropy and public higher education advancement. Knowledge of nonprofit governance, state and federal reporting, charitable law, and fiduciary responsibilities (e.g., RCWs 11.110, 19.09, 24.03, 24.44). Management of capital campaigns, major gifts, donor stewardship, grant development, and board relations. Proficiency in donor and financial management software such as Raiser’s Edge NXT, Financial Edge NXT, Donor Perfect, and QuickBooks. Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and SharePoint. Skill In Effective communication and public speaking with excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and negotiation skills. Strategy development, budgeting, staff leadership, and performance evaluation. Fostering a culture of equity, inclusion, and belonging through relationship building and community engagement. Reading, analyzing, and producing complex documents and financial reports. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships at all organizational levels. Management, multitasking, and coordinating outcomes/activities with multiple partners. Interpreting applicable laws, regulations, and policies accurately. Effectively communicating with individuals at all levels. Handling sensitive and confidential matters with discretion, using sound independent judgment within legal guidelines. Physical Work Environment The College provides services both online and in‑person. Administrators are assigned to work on campus, noting there may be some opportunities to work remotely based on program or area needs. If authorized for limited remote work, employees will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs. When working on‑campus, this position will perform work in a standard office setting, use standard office equipment and physically attend meetings both on and off campus, using the ability to communicate in person or through appropriate means. This position requires travel both locally and regionally. This position also works weekends and evenings when appropriate or needed. Terms Of Employment/Salary This is a full‑time administrative/exempt annually contracted position. Initial salary placement determined by the College dependent upon education/experience.
