Phlebotomist - Part Time - North CountyThis is a part-time, benefitted position with varied 4-hour shifts totaling 40 hours per biweekly pay period. The primary work location is Jefferson (Oceanside), with regular support also provided to Cedar (Vista) and San Marcos. While Jefferson is the main site, floating to the other locations is required based on operational needs. Typical morning shifts are 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Department operating hours are 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., so additional availability outside of morning hours is preferred. Weekend shifts are required on a 4-week rotation and are scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Holiday coverage is also required on a rotating basis. Availability for afternoon and evening shifts, especially 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., is preferred.Why join Scripps Health? Our specialties have been nationally recognized for quality in areas such as cardiovascular care, oncology, orthopedics, geriatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and gastroenterology.Your job duties:Respond to life critical situations such as Trauma, Stroke Codes, Code Sepsis or Code Blues.Ensure samples are collected following time-sensitive priorities (STAT, Timed and routine).Observe aseptic technique and isolation procedures whenever indicated.Clarify unclear orders, resolve any orders or patient identification discrepancies prior to sample collection and document ABN necessity whenever indicated.Identify patients according to policy prior to sample collection and label samples accurately.Perform phlebotomy through venipuncture or capillary puncture and observe age-specific techniques for all patient age groups.Preserve sample integrity by delivering samples to the laboratory within the required amount of time.Process specimens and follow critical sample handling instructions regarding centrifugation, aliquoting, transport, and storage requirements for every test performed in the laboratory or sent out to a reference laboratory.Follow HAZMAT regulations when packing samples for transport to the Core Lab or other laboratories.Perform crucial pre-analytic and analytic steps of test procedures as required, under supervision of licensed laboratory personnel.Demonstrate knowledge of standard office equipment, computers and computer software skills including laboratory and hospital electronic medical records.Qualifications:Good critical thinking and analytical skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsProficient with medical terminology and of computer systemsCertified Phlebotomy Technician I or IIValid certificate issued by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH)American Heart Association Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Professional (BLS) certificatePreferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification:Minimum of 1-2 years of phlebotomy experience or an externship at any one of our Scripps PSC LocationsMust be flexible for schedulingNew grads welcome to apply!
