Perinatal Nurse

The Perinatal Nurse is responsible for delivering professional nursing care to patients through the Labor and Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum, and Nursery departments. The role ensures safe and effective care adhering to established policies, procedures, and guidelines. The nurse will perform antenatal testing, monitor both maternal and neonatal wellbeing during labor, and provide individualized care to achieve a positive birthing experience for families.

Provide exceptional care while performing assessments and developing care plans for patients.

Monitor maternal and fetal wellbeing during labor and respond to any non-reassuring signs appropriately.

Conduct neonatal assessments and testing in accordance with established policies.

Administer medications safely and accurately while ensuring documentation of interventions.

Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare team members to coordinate care.

Provide postpartum care and education tailored to individual patient needs.

Participate in departmental readiness activities, including equipment checks and quality control.

Assist with examinations, deliveries, and other procedures, offering support to the healthcare team.

Perform triage and provide care to patients with high-risk pregnancies.

Document patient assessments and maintain accurate medical records.

Completion of an accredited nursing program.

Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

A minimum of two years of recent Perinatal Nursing experience required; five years preferred.

Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.

Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Fetal Heart Monitoring required. STABLE certification preferred.

Proficient computer skills for electronic medical records documentation.

Preferred bilingual abilities for effective communication with diverse patients.

Demonstrated skills in conducting comprehensive triage and assessments.

Ability to manage complications of pregnancy and provide appropriate interventions.

Proficient in interpreting fetal heart tracings and addressing abnormal parameters accordingly.

Strong communication skills for effective patient and family education.

Capacity to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing circumstances.

The position requires physical capabilities to walk, stand, sit, and use hands to handle objects. Employees must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, as well as perform actions such as kneeling or crouching.

The work environment presents routine hospital conditions, with exposure to bloodborne pathogens, infections, and emergency situations. Employees will need to manage various tasks simultaneously in a potentially stressful atmosphere.
