Network Engineer

This role requires candidates who are currently authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship, and C2C arrangements are not accepted. This role is on-site in La Mirada, CA.

Position Overview:


We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer to support, monitor, and improve network and security infrastructure across a multi-site business environment. This role will be responsible for day-to-day network operations, infrastructure troubleshooting, wireless and firewall support, vendor coordination, and ongoing security remediation activities.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on network professional with strong experience in routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, wireless access points, Microsoft environments, Active Directory, and security operations support. This person should be able to quickly assess network issues, determine whether they can be resolved remotely or require onsite support, and communicate clearly with internal leadership, help desk teams, vendors, and security partners.

This role is best suited for someone who has strong networking fundamentals, good judgment, strong follow-through, and the ability to support both operational "keep-the-lights-on" work and infrastructure improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Support and maintain network infrastructure across multiple business locations.
• Monitor network health, wireless connectivity, firewall activity, VPN tunnels, and infrastructure alerts.
• Troubleshoot connectivity, performance, access, wireless, routing, firewall, VPN, and security-related issues.
• Manage and support wireless access points, SSIDs, segmentation, guest networks, internal networks, and dedicated user/device access.
• Administer routing, switching, VLANs, DNS, IP addressing, VPNs, and general network operations.
• Support firewall operations, including reviewing rules, access controls, VPN configurations, and security policies.
• Work with managed service providers and vendors to open tickets, track issues, validate changes, and ensure resolution.
• Support Microsoft-based environments, including Active Directory and Microsoft 365-related administration.
• Use PowerShell and Microsoft tools for administration, reporting, troubleshooting, and basic automation.
• Support security platforms and management consoles such as Microsoft Defender, Proofpoint, Duo, Intune, or similar tools.
• Partner with SOC teams on alerts, investigations, escalations, and incident response support.
• Review security reports, vulnerability findings, and penetration testing results; determine appropriate remediation steps.
• Coordinate remediation work with help desk, infrastructure, security, and vendor teams.
• Determine which issues can be assigned to Level 1 support and which require Level 2/Level 3 network engineering ownership.
• Perform firmware updates, patching, lifecycle planning, and maintenance for switches, access points, firewalls, and related infrastructure.
• Assist with network upgrades, firewall migrations, wireless improvements, infrastructure refreshes, and other IT projects.
• Create and maintain network diagrams, documentation, procedures, incident notes, and resolution records.
• Provide regular updates to management on network health, security items, incidents, vendor tickets, and project status.
• Travel to local business sites as needed when issues cannot be resolved remotely.

Required Qualifications

• Strong experience in network engineering, network administration, or infrastructure support.
• Hands-on experience with routing, switching, VLANs, segmentation, firewalls, VPNs, DNS, and network troubleshooting.
• Experience supporting wireless networks, access points, SSIDs, and multi-network wireless environments.
• Experience supporting Windows environments, Active Directory, and Microsoft 365 tools.
• Working knowledge of PowerShell for administration, troubleshooting, reporting, or automation.
• Experience using network, firewall, wireless, security, or endpoint management consoles.
• Experience with email security, endpoint security, or security monitoring tools such as Microsoft Defender, Proofpoint, Duo, Intune, or similar platforms.
• Ability to read and interpret vulnerability findings, penetration testing reports, and security recommendations.
• Experience partnering with SOC, security, infrastructure, help desk, and vendor teams.
• Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify root cause and prioritize business-critical issues.
• Ability to support multiple locations and respond appropriately to urgent network or security issues.
• Strong documentation, communication, follow-up, and ownership skills.
• Ability to work independently while keeping leadership and stakeholders informed.

Preferred Qualifications

• 10+ years of network engineering or related IT infrastructure experience.
• Experience supporting a multi-site business environment.
• Experience with Meraki wireless access points, dashboards, SSIDs, and firewall environments.
• Experience with Fortinet or other enterprise firewall platforms.
• Experience working with managed firewall, managed network, or ISP/vendor-supported environments.
• Experience with Dell, Cisco, Meraki, Fortinet, SonicWall, or similar network infrastructure.
• Experience with Microsoft E5 security tools, Defender, Intune, Active Directory, and Microsoft 365 administration.
• Experience supporting backup circuits, failover, VPN tunnels, and site-to-site connectivity.
• Experience creating network diagrams using tools such as Visio, draw.io, Lucidchart, or similar platforms.
• Experience balancing daily operational support with infrastructure upgrades and security remediation projects.
• Prior experience in healthcare, clinical, regulated, or high-availability business environments is helpful but not required.

Work Environment

• Multi-site support environment with a combination of remote troubleshooting and onsite support as needed.
• Standard business hours, with occasional flexibility required for urgent incidents, maintenance windows, or project work.
• Local travel may be required between business locations.
• Role will work closely with internal IT, help desk, security, leadership, vendors, and managed service providers.

Ideal Candidate Profile


The successful candidate will be a practical, reliable Network Engineer who understands core networking fundamentals and can operate confidently across wireless, firewall, VPN, Microsoft, and security support environments. This person does not need to be a niche expert in every platform, but must know how to navigate management consoles, interpret alerts and reports, work with vendors, and drive issues to resolution.

They should be comfortable supporting a business where network availability is critical to daily operations and should bring the judgment to know when to troubleshoot remotely, when to escalate, and when onsite support is required.
