Military Family Life Counselor

Overview Military Family Life Counselor – Joint Base Anacostia‑Bolling, DC. Locally based or willing to relocate to provide full‑breadth Child and Youth Behavioral (CYB) counseling services to children of all ages, military families, and civilian expeditionary workforce. Responsibilities Provide non‑medical, short‑term, solution‑focused counseling, including assessment, brief counseling, action planning, referrals, and follow‑up. Deliver training and health‑and‑wellness presentations; participate in health fairs and base/installation activities focused on children and youth. Consult with parents, child development center staff, youth programs, summer camps, and installation command on behavioral health issues. Collect and document counselor activity data daily via smartphone or web application, ensuring accurate reporting and confidentiality. Establish and maintain working relationships with community resources, providing appropriate linkages to services. Maintain line‑of‑sight protocol with another responsible adult during all child interactions. Work with Points of Contact (POC) to ensure CYB services meet installation needs and remain within program scope. Manage duty‑to‑warn and restricted reporting in accordance with Department of Defense protocol; coordinate with Regional Supervisors and Directors. Participate in regular individual and group supervision, in‑services/training, quality‑improvement committees, and pilot program initiatives as directed. Respond to critical incidents and special requests per POC instruction and Office of Secretary of Defense approval. Provide urgent on‑call support as needed, flexing schedule to meet installation demands. Perform all other duties as assigned. Qualifications Master’s degree in a mental‑health related field from an accredited graduate program. Valid, unrestricted independent counseling license (LICSW, LMFT, LPC, or Psychologist) issued by a U.S. state, District of Columbia, U.S. territory, or Commonwealth. Minimum of two years of post‑license clinical experience. Intermediate proficiency with technology: Microsoft Office, internet navigation, smartphone/tablet application navigation, and video‑conferencing platforms. Ability to engage and communicate effectively with military members, children, and families, including diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. U.S. citizenship and fluency in English. Demonstrated ability to respond quickly to emergent situations across various military installations and school settings, including navigating rugged and outdoor environments. Additional Requirements Pass a Child National Agency Check and Inquiries (CNACI) Clearance, Installation Records Check (IRC), criminal history background check, and FBI fingerprints check. Valid U.S. state vehicle operator’s license (or required U.S. military vehicle operator permit for temporary duty locations). Meet Magellan MFLC CYB criteria for experience with children and youth, specialty in child and adolescent development/psychology. School‑assigned counselors must have prior work experience in a school setting. Familiarity with, and compliance to, magnet wind spiritual se. Salary & Benefits Salary range: $59,922 – $100,280 annually (based on national data; actual pay adjusted for skills, experience, and education).
