About the Role

As a Mortgage Loan Officer (MLO) – External Sales , you’ll build relationships, generate new business, and help members navigate the home financing process from application through closing. This role focuses on self-sourced mortgage and home equity production through realtor, builder, professional, and community partnerships.

You’ll combine mortgage expertise with business development and relationship management to create a strong pipeline, deliver an exceptional member experience, and support sustainable lending growth. This position is compensated through a commission-based structure with a recoverable draw , aligning earning potential with individual production.

What You'll Do

• Generate mortgage and home equity business through external networking, business development, and referral partnerships.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with realtors, builders, financial professionals, community organizations, and other referral partners.
• Develop and manage a pipeline of self-sourced opportunities, providing consistent follow-up from application through closing.
• Meet with applicants to understand their financial goals, gather required documentation, and recommend appropriate mortgage and home equity solutions.
• Structure loan applications in accordance with product guidelines, underwriting requirements, and applicable policies.
• Maintain accurate and complete loan documentation and information within the loan origination system.
• Partner with Processing, Underwriting, Closing, and other lending teams to facilitate an efficient loan process.
• Maintain compliance with applicable mortgage lending requirements, including TILA/RESPA, HMDA, and Fair Lending requirements.
• Monitor pipeline activity, pull-through, production, and member experience results to achieve established goals.
• Represent the Credit Union at community events, open houses, networking events, and other business development opportunities.
• Stay current on mortgage products, market conditions, lending requirements, and industry trends to effectively serve members and referral partners.

What We're Looking For

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 2–5 years of mortgage lending or related financial services experience preferred.
• NMLS registration required or ability to obtain within the designated timeframe.
• Experience with mortgage loan origination systems, such as Encompass, preferred.
• Strong knowledge of mortgage and home equity products, lending practices, and underwriting fundamentals.
• Demonstrated success in sales, business development, networking, or relationship-based lending.
• Strong ability to build and maintain referral relationships and generate self-sourced business.
• Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
• Strong organization and pipeline management skills with the ability to manage multiple applications and deadlines.
• Sound understanding of mortgage lending compliance, including TILA/RESPA, HMDA, and Fair Lending.

In alignment with our commitment to pay transparency, we're pleased to share that the base range for this position is $39,998.40 per year, excluding fringe benefits or potential incentives. This position is eligible for a Variable Incentive Plan. If you're hired, your final base pay will be determined based on factors such as skills, education, and experience. We also take pay equity seriously and consider the internal equity of our current team members as part of any final offer.
