Wound and Ostomy Registered Nurse

The Wound and Ostomy Registered Nurse establishes satisfactory interpersonal relationships with co-workers, colleagues, patients, families, and significant others. Initiates communication with patients and families to determine their individual needs. Initiates communication with co-workers and colleagues from other disciplines and departments to share and exchange ideas and information. Provides detailed patient education to patients and family members during their inpatient stay and at the time of discharge, following prescribed teaching plans. Responds effectively, both verbally and non-verbally, to communications from patients, families, and significant others, as well as from colleagues and supervisors. Demonstrates ethical decision-making and actions on behalf of patients. Shows sensitivity to the values of self and others. Involves patients and families in the plan of care, incorporating their cultural, spiritual, and other belief systems. The role involves standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, and bending. The position may include some repetitive motions. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions without compromising patient care. Skills required include the ability to prioritize and problem-solve. Ability to relate collaboratively with the healthcare team. Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written, are necessary. Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential. A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required, and a Master's Degree in Nursing is preferred. Registered Nurse License and Basic Life Support certification are required. Wound and Ostomy Certification is preferred.
