Transportation Operations Manager

Utz Quality Foods is currently seeking a Transportation Operations Manager . Our preferred candidate is located within 2 to 3 hours from Hanover, Pennsylvania . Working Remotely, the Transportation Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the entire transportation process, from planning and scheduling shipments to managing carrier relationships and ensuring compliance with customer requirements. This position plays a key role in developing and implementing strategies to improve transportation efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance overall service quality. This requires a hands-on approach, with a focus on continuous improvement and problem-solving to address any transportation-related challenges. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement transportation strategies to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of goods, both inbound and outbound. Coordinate with internal departments and external partners to streamline shipping processes. Plan and schedule shipments based on production schedules, customer orders, and inventory levels. Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers and other logistics service providers. Monitor and evaluate the performance of vendors to ensure service quality and compliance with agreements. Oversee daily transportation operations, ensuring adherence to company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. Monitor and manage transportation budgets, aiming to reduce costs while maintaining service quality. Implement and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to track and improve operational efficiency. Address and resolve transportation-related issues such as delays, damages, and discrepancies. Develop contingency plans to mitigate risks and handle unexpected disruptions in the supply chain. Lead and mentor a team of transportation coordinators and support staff. Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment. Provide training and development opportunities to enhance team skills and knowledge. Leverage transportation management systems (TMS) and other technologies to optimize routing, scheduling, and tracking. Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs. Stay updated on industry trends and best practices to ensure the company remains competitive. Job Requirements Demonstrated analytical, business process and problem-solving experience Prior experience engaging cross-functional teams designed to identify analytical and savings efficiencies and design solutions Transportation Management System (TMS) experience is strongly preferred Strong communications and process skills with the ability to evaluate and challenge the current state Self-starter who thrives working independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic, deadline-oriented environment Creative and innovative thinker with proven ability to drive results Proven organizational and priority-setting skills. Ability to achieve results and execute simultaneous projects in a fast-paced environment, meeting deadlines and communicating status Proficient in Microsoft programs include Word, Excel and Outlook.
