Training Specialist

Description Choices for People provides year-round support and instructional programs designed to aid individuals with disabilities in developing essential life skills. These skills promote inclusion, independence, self-sufficiency, and productivity; and aim to maximize the individual’s quality of life in the least restrictive environment possible. Choices for People assists in individual goal-oriented program planning, and acts as an advocate in the community through the removal of attitudinal, architectural, environmental, financial, employment-related, communicational, transportation, and other barriers. Position Summary The Training Specialist supports organizational effectiveness and quality service delivery by coordinating, developing, and delivering training and learning opportunities for staff. This role implements training initiatives aligned with regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and best practices. The Training Specialist may provide hands‑on instruction, coaching, or modeling in program or community settings to support effective skill transfer, while maintaining a primary focus on training coordination, documentation and continuous improvement. Duties and Responsibilities (not all inclusive) Coordinate, deliver, and support training programs for staff to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, organizational policies, and service standards. Deliver group and individual training sessions covering technical, operational, and service-delivery topics using a variety of instructional methods. Provide hands-on instruction, coaching, or modeling in service settings as needed to support effective learning and application of skills. Support onboarding and orientation processes by tracking completion of required trainings and assisting new hires with training expectations. Collaborate with leadership and interdisciplinary teams to identify training needs and support staff development initiatives. Assist in implementing and monitoring training programs, curricula, and learning materials. Monitor, collect, and input training data into approved tracking systems to support compliance and reporting requirements. Maintain accurate, current, and timely training documentation and records in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards. Maintain a working knowledge of available internal and external resources for employees and individuals and share information as appropriate. Assist with the development and maintenance of training materials, presentations, visual aids, and other learning resources. Support interdepartmental communication related to training initiatives, expectations, and updates. Communicate routinely with stakeholders to share training information, address concerns, and support consistency in service delivery. Maintain knowledge of relevant regulations, accreditation standards, and best practice trends related to training and disability services. Uphold organizational policies and ensure that all event-related and operational activities align with applicable internal procedures, state and federal regulations, and compliance standards. Represent the organization professionally in training environments, meetings, and community settings. Participate in quality assurance, review, and improvement activities related to training and staff development. Operate facility vehicles when required, ensuring adherence to all safety policies, licensing requirements, and governmental regulations. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all individual, staff, and organizational information and comply with HIPAA and all applicable privacy and confidentiality laws. This obligation applies both during employment and after separation from the organization. Support strategic planning related to training initiatives, goals, and development. Requirements Education and/or Experience: Associate’s degree in education, human services, organizational development, nonprofit management, or a related field required.A combination of education and experience equivalent to degree requirements may be considered. Bachelor’s degree in education, human services, organizational development, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred. At least 1 year of experience in training delivery, staff development, education, or a related role preferred. At least 1 year of experience working in disability services, human services, healthcare, or nonprofit environments preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with staff, leadership, individuals served, and external stakeholders. Ability to develop, deliver, and facilitate training and learning activities using a variety of instructional methods. Ability to provide hands-on instruction, coaching, and modeling in program or community settings to support skill acquisition and application. Ability to understand, interpret, and apply organizational policies, training standards, and regulatory requirements. Working knowledge of adult learning principles and person-centered practices. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure accurate training documentation, tracking, and compliance. Ability to collect, enter, and maintain training data and records using electronic systems and organizational tools. Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information appropriately and comply with HIPAA and applicable privacy regulations. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and other training or documentation platforms. Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, analyze data, and prioritize multiple training initiatives. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, build relationships, and engage effectively with individuals served, staff, community members, and partners. Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams and adapt training content to diverse audiences. Ability to represent the organization professionally in training, community, and public settings. Commitment to the organization’s mission, values, and commitment to quality service delivery. Physical Demands: List of physical requirements Ability to stand, move, and be physically active for extended periods. Ability to regularly lift 30-50 pounds. Ability to participate in and support activities occurring in a variety of environments (indoor, outdoor, community settings).
