Additional Information About the Role BJC HealthCare System is hiring a Full-Time Surgical Pathology Technical Coordinator at Missouri Baptist Medical Center (MBMC) - Surgical Pathology Dept Position Details:
Day Shift Hours: Mon-Fri (7am - 3:30pm)
Provide bench level support to all positions within Anatomic Pathology
Provide operational oversight such as facilitation of schedules
Mentor & train new staff
Assess & prioritize work

Requirements:
Bachelor?s Degree in Physical/Life Science or related field
CT (ASCP) or equivalent
Minimum 2 years of cytology experience

Overview
Missouri Baptist Medical Center , an acute care hospital in St. Louis County, offers a full continuum of medical and surgical services, including heart care, cancer, women and infants, breast health, gastrointestinal, orthopedic, stroke, therapy, wound and pain management services. The hospital has a 24-hour adult emergency department and cares for pediatric patients at a separate emergency department in collaboration with St. Louis Children?s Hospital. Missouri Baptist is the first and only hospital in St. Louis County to be named a Magnet® hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The prestigious designation is the highest credential a health care organization can receive for nursing excellence and quality patient care. The Clinical Laboratory at Missouri Baptist Medical Center is committed to improving the health and wellness of patients through our expertise in laboratory medicine and strong customer service. The laboratory performs over 1 million tests annually with a focus on providing accurate and timely results and services to patients and the community we serve. The laboratory is fully accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB). Preferred Qualifications Role Purpose Performs all duties of a cytotechnologist or histotechnologist/histotechnician, utilizing the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively meet the needs of all patients and clients by providing quality results in a timely manner. Provides daily operational oversight (determine schedules, manage day to day workflow, and give input into an assessment or disciplinary action). Provides technical support to all bench level positions within Anatomic Pathology. May be responsible for one or more technical areas of focus, to include training, quality assurance, and technical support. Responsibilities Assesses workload, prioritizes work, makes staffing adjustments and assists staff when needed. Coordinates/reviews schedules with supervisors and coordinators to ensure adequate staffing for shift. Focuses on quality by assembling and reviewing statistical data and assuring performance of all quality control procedures. Ensures quality control and instrumentation maintenance records meet standards of accrediting and licensing agencies. Assist the department Lab Director and Lab Supervisors, as appropriate, in the implementation of new QC/QA policies and continuous quality improvement programs in accordance with the Quality Management Program. Provides support during inspections. Oversees department operations in the absence of a supervisor. Coordinates the operation of the anatomic pathology information system within the laboratory. Ability to perform, maintain quality, and troubleshoot testing in a broad range of histochemical, immunohistochemical, immunofluorescent, and/or cytochemical procedures. Mentors and/or trains new and established staff members and students in routine and specialized techniques used in the laboratory. Participates in competency assessment of staff and proctors competency or proficiency testing. BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
