Plumber

Classification Requirements Must have valid driver's license. Must have Journeyman plumber license or be able to get the license within a year. Knowledge Commercial plumbing systems. Current plumbing codes. Light construction methods, including HVAC, electrical, and carpentry. Occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in operation of hand and power tools, plumbing systems, and general building maintenance work. Essential Duties and Responsibilities (will vary by assignment) Inspecting plumbing systems and identifying issues that need repair or replacement. Installing pipes and plumbing fixtures such as sinks and toilets. Repairing or replacing damaged parts in plumbing systems. Clearing obstructions from sink drains and toilets. Performing routine maintenance tasks such as checking for leaks and maintaining faucets and fixtures. Responding to plumbing emergencies promptly and efficiently. Interpreting blueprints and building specifications to map layout for pipes, drainage systems, and other plumbing materials. Providing cost estimates for plumbing services and products. Ensuring compliance with safety standards and building regulations. Maintaining an inventory of plumbing supplies and equipment, scheduling and completing work orders. Calibrating pneumatic testing equipment. Assembling, positioning, and mounting plumbing equipment, following blueprints. Purchasing parts for immediate and future needs, in accordance with district policies and procedures. Studying specifications in blueprints, schematics, equipment manuals and building plans. Estimating amount and kind of materials required and notifying supervisor of the need for materials. Initiating communication with supervisor about needed repairs or status of projects. Performing maintenance and minor repair on tools and equipment. Attending and actively participating in required training classes.
