Wastewater Plant Operator

ASSIGNED TO THE CITY OF CONROE SOUTHWEST WASTEWATER PLANT Job Summary The Wastewater Plant Operator performs duties in the operations, maintenance and repairs necessary at the wastewater treatment plant. Qualifications Education and Experience: Minimum three years of experience in operation and maintenance of municipal wastewater treatment plant. Special Requirements: Must possess a valid Texas Class "B" commercial driver's license within six months of hire. Current class "C" Wastewater Certification issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. Ability to lift weights of 50 pounds alone and up to 100 pounds with assistance. On call 24/7 every set period of time. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of and ability to drive heavy construction equipment. Knowledge of computer software and programs. Knowledge of operations, maintenance and repair of wastewater pumps and control system. Knowledge of City of Conroe's policies and procedures. Knowledge of safe working conditions and procedures. Skill in communicating well with supervisors, subordinates and public. Skill in good communication. Skill in using attitude, tact and courtesy necessary to deal with internal and external customers. Ability to operate various types of hand and precision tools. Ability to climb in and out of confined areas. Ability to lift weights of 50 pounds alone and up to 100 pounds with assistance. Ability to stand, stoop, kneel or sit for long periods of time. Ability to utilize independent judgment and decision-making abilities as necessary. Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously in a team environment and with minimal supervision. Ability to work as many hours needed to get the work assigned completed. Ability to adapt to new technology, new methods and changing conditions. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to obtain licenses/certifications to perform work assignments. Ability to respond at any hour during an emergency when requested. Ability to understand and follow City of Conroe and departmental policies and procedures. Ability to maintain accurate records and reports to remain in compliance with the discharge permit. Ability to work outside in various conditions and terrain. Physical Demands The work is medium and requires the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking. Starting salary for this position is $23.35 hourly.
