This position supports the head coach in all facets of the program, including player development, recruitment, game preparation, and academic support, while fostering a strong team culture centered on integrity, discipline, and excellence on and off the court. This role also upholds the university's values as a premier HBCU and NCAA Division I member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).**NATURE AND SCOPE:**Internal Contacts – head women’s basketball coach, assistant women’s basketball coaches, vice president of athleticsExternal Contacts – assistant women’s basketball coaches at MEAC institutions**PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:****Coaching & Player Development*** Assist in planning and conducting high-level team and individual training sessions.* Instruct student-athletes on basketball techniques, strategies, and performance improvement.* Maintain a commitment to safety, sportsmanship, and NCAA compliance at all times.* Contribute to pre-game, in-game, and post-game coaching responsibilities as assigned.* Collaborate on player development plans including off-season workouts, strength and conditioning, and film sessions.**Recruitment*** Identify, evaluate, and cultivate prospective student-athletes who align with Howard’s academic standards and competitive goals.* Manage recruiting in designated geographic areas or by position group.* Build meaningful relationships with recruits, families, high school coaches, and AAU programs.* Coordinate on-campus visits and assist with travel, logistics, and recruiting presentations.**Student-Athlete Support & Culture Building*** Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes in coordination with academic support staff.* Encourage personal growth and leadership development in student-athletes.* Promote a cohesive, positive team culture aligned with Howard’s mission and values.* Serve as a mentor, advisor, and advocate for student-athletes’ holistic well-being.* Support adherence to team rules, university policies, and NCAA regulations.**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:*** Bachelor’s degree.
