Job Summary

The Clinical Research Technician assists faculty in conducting clinical research studies. This role supports clinical research within the section of vascular surgery.

Responsibilities*

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist faculty with day-to-day execution of clinical research studies in accordance with protocol requirements and institutional policies.
• Prepare, calibrate, and maintain study equipment and materials as needed; document preparation and use per study and regulatory standards.
• Review the clinic schedule weekly to identify upcoming cases involving participants who have consented to research trials.
• Coordinate with clinical teams to confirm timing and logistics for study-related activities.
• Consent patients for research studies as delegated and trained, using IRB-approved materials and following human subjects protections and documentation requirements.
• Assist in identifying and selecting patients for potential research participation, including basic chart review/screening activities as permitted by protocol and regulations.
• Maintain accurate study documentation (e.g., logs, specimen records, source documentation support, deviations) and report issues to the study team promptly.
• Participate in study meetings and communicate clearly with investigators, coordinators, clinical staff, and laboratory personnel to support protocol adherence.

Required Qualifications*

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in a life science, health science, or related field preferred.
• Experience in a clinical, laboratory, or research setting (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• Ability to follow written protocols precisely and maintain detailed, accurate records.
• Comfort working in patient-care environments.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and respond to time-sensitive requests.

Desired Qualifications*

• Prior clinical research experience (e.g., study support, patient screening).
• Bachelor's degree
• Training/experience in consenting participants, human subjects research protections, and/or GCP (Good Clinical Practice).
• Familiarity with IRB requirements, EMR-based screening workflows, and specimen tracking systems.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
