Job Title: Surgical Technologist Profession: Surgical Tech Specialty: Surgical Services Duration: 13 weeks Shift: First Shift Hours per Shift: 40 Experience: Seven years of experience required License: BLS required Certifications: One of the following is required: NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or NCCT Tech in Surgery Certified (TS-C) Must-Have: Completion of a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited Surgical Tech program or completion of a Surgical Technologist program in the United States Armed Forces Description: The Surgical Technologist serves as a primary scrub person or assistant for operative procedures. Responsibilities include surgical preparation, assisting during surgical cases, and post-case cleanup. In surgical prep, the technologist scrubs into cases and ensures all instruments and supplies are available. They maintain a sterile field during setup and alert the circulating nurse of any identified risks. During surgical cases, they pass instruments and assist the physician as needed. They may assist in cutting suture material and applying electrocautery under supervision. Maintaining instrument, sponge, and sharps counts is essential. They collaborate with the circulating nurse on patient positioning and interventions. Post-case, they perform cleaning duties and are responsible for gross decontamination of instruments. They follow all standards for instrument transport and notify leaders of any damaged instruments. Ensuring the surgical suite is disinfected and stocked for the next procedure is part of their role. They are expected to complete all mandatory education and maintain compliance with HR requirements. Practicing safe practices in the OR is crucial, along with completing annual competency assessments. Direct collaboration and effective communication with co-workers and customers are emphasized. A commitment to personal responsibility for actions, attitudes, and results is necessary.
