HVAC Technician - Washington, DC

HVAC Technician - MedStar Washington Hospital Center - 1st Shift Salary: $40 to $45 per hour. Location: MedStar Washington Hospital Center, Washington, DC. Job Summary The HVAC Maintenance Technician performs a variety of skilled maintenance duties related to the facilities engineering and maintenance departments. This position works a 6am to 2:30pm schedule Monday through Friday. Responsibilities Update work statuses and document tasks completed in the CMMS using a mobile device. Operate, maintain, and repair centrifugal chiller systems, air handlers, supply fans, VAV devices, valves, and thermostats per manufacturer specifications and the Joint Commission requirements. Ensure proper operation of pneumatic controls and devices. Assist in making decisions on all repairs and report major problems to the Manager as appropriate. Support project management activities as needed. Respond to emergency problems in the facility and perform emergency repairs. Maintain logs, perform rounds, and complete preventive maintenance work orders, tests, and inspections. Make recommendations for modification or improvement of preventive maintenance systems. Maintain shops and mechanical areas in a clean and safe manner. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications 1-5 years’ experience as a Maintenance Technician in an institutional setting in an engineering or maintenance subject area. HVAC certification or license highly preferred. Experience working with blueprints and schematics. General understanding of electro‑mechanical equipment. Rudimentary ability to apply hand‑operated construction equipment. Ability to repeatedly lift 50 pounds and kneel, bend, stoop, and perform strenuous labor for extended periods.
