Substitute and Permanent Bus MonitorReports to: Transportation DirectorSupervises: NoneTerm of Employment: 10 MonthsFLSA Exempt/Non-Exempt: Non-ExemptPay Grade: 50QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalentMust be at least eighteen (18) yearsEssential Job FunctionsAssists the bus driver with the safety, movement, management and care of the children boarding the school bus, leaving the bus or being transportedSeats self in an area on the bus to ensure observation of all passengers at all times and make sure they are following school bus safety rulesAssists the school bus driver in reporting infractions of school bus safetyIs aware of problems between students and keeping those students separated by assigning seatsWhen working on a school bus equipped with a wheelchair lift, operates the lift for loading and unloading of wheelchairs and also ensures that that the wheelchair is properly secured on the school busIs responsible for securing students who ride in child restraint seats, etc.Attends school bus safety meetingsMaintains a high standard of student conduct at all timesAssists driver in keeping the bus clean and inspect for damages and repairs on a daily basisEnsures that a child takes his/her belongings with him/her when departing the busPerforms other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisorPhysical and Cognitive RequirementsThe major physical and cognitive requirements listed below are applicable to this job classification within Dare County Schools. Work in this classification is considered medium physical work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Must be able to:walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, and crouchwork in various inside and outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, job hazards and atmospheric conditions.use visual acuity required for depth perception and color perceptionvisually inspect small defects and/or small partsuse a variety of measuring devicesassemble or fabricate parts at or within arm's lengthoperate machines, motor vehicles, hand tools, and job specific equipment and tools determine the accuracy and thoroughness of workobserve general surroundings and activitieshear sufficiently to accurately perceive information at normally spoken word levelsuse communication by means of spoken word to express or exchange ideassafely work in situations of exposure to blood borne pathogens which may require specialized personal protective equipment
