Purpose

The Service Technician position is responsible for the mechanical repair and maintenance of the company's equipment to manufacturer and company standards, ensuring the equipment is always ready for service and in compliance with prevailing local, state, and federal guidelines for safe operation.

Position Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic evaluation of equipment
• Perform all mechanical repairs based upon diagnostic evaluation to appropriately repair vehicles to manufacturers' and company standards to ensure safe operation within the limits of the mechanical repairs.
• Follow the appropriately issued orders of maintenance supervisory personnel to complete the required maintenance and repair of the company's vehicles to maintain the equipment to manufacturer, company, state and federal standards.
• Initiate repairs based on review of the defect report and DVIR reports from drivers as required in returning vehicles to service.
• Monitor and record inventory usage on the appropriate form, and keep supervisory personnel aware of stock inventory requirements based on usage and need.
• Coordinate with the maintenance foreman on any daily outbound coach assignments, ensuring that assigned equipment is ready for service and capable of completing the assigned move without maintenance issues.
• Maintain good housekeeping standards within the assigned work area.
• Properly care for shop tools and equipment entrusted to their care.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED is required.
• State certification in any area of competency involving heavy equipment, brakes, air systems, electrical, and HVAC is preferred, but not required.
• Working knowledge of suspension, brake, and air systems and effective maintenance and repair of those components is the minimum standard necessary to qualify for this position.
• Standard-sized tools, both SAE and metric, are required up to 1/2" drive to adequately qualify and perform this job.
• Mechanics must have a valid commercial driver's license, minimum class B with air brake endorsement, or be able to obtain one, to be qualified for emergency road calls and for road testing of motor coaches on public highways.

ServiceTechnician/Mechanics will be classified in accordance with training and capability grades as follows:

Class A Knowledge and competency in all vehicle systems, including electrical, engine, transmission, including teardown and rebuild, brakes, suspension, cooling systems, electronics, diagnostics, and HVAC systems.

Class B Knowledge and competency in brakes, suspensions, and HVAC with broad scope R&R (remove and repair) of major components, including routine maintenance, electronic diagnostic, and repair capabilities.

Utility Knowledge and competency to perform routine service, including tire and brake work, without HVAC certification and electrical training.

Production Requirements:

• Expected to be punctual and regular in attendance.
• Work efficiently and economically, using best judgment in the necessity for replacement parts and materials, and regularly consulting with the maintenance supervisor for the best course of action.
